HP Pavillon Notebook
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

For several years my notebook has perfectly worked using the wifi network. Connection is automatic and the signal is very strong.

Since a couple of days the notebook refuses to connect automatically and after a diagnostic scan, I get a message saying the notebook can't obtain an IP address. I have rebooted the notebook several times with no success. The router has also been rebooted many time with no improvement. The printer which is connected to the wifi works fine.

I am using an Ethernet connection onto the router to write this message and the connection works fine.

What could be wrong  and how do I solve the problem.

Many thanks in advance

Daniel

Hi, Daniel:

It could be that the wifi card has a hardware issue, so the only suggestion I can offer would be to see if updating the wifi driver to the latest version for W10 resolves the problem, to rule out a driver issue.

What model wifi adapter does your notebook have?

If you don't know, go to the device manager, click to expand the Network Adapters device manager category, and there you will find the name and model number of the wireless network adapter.

You're very welcome.

See if updating the wifi driver for the  Intel(R) Dual Band Wireless-AC 3165 wifi adapter and restarting the PC, gets it to work again.

First one at the top left side of the page.

Thanks for the tip and link. I'll download the version for W10 64 bits, run onto the notebook then reboot the lot.

I'll let u know the result...

I downloaded the update, installed and rebooted the notebook and.... still doesn't connect 🙄

I'm at lose for the moment.

Guess I need to take the notebook and try connecting to another network in order to see if it works elsewhere.

I'll be back later

You're very welcome.

Sorry that updating the wifi driver didn't work for you.

Thanks anyway, but back to square one 😫
