Thanks very much for your reply, sorry for being so late, I was away for a while, I shall certainly look into getting the Intel card(s) as  dual band appeals. I did get a tplink plug in, but that uses a USB port, and Like the having a spare. thanks again Banhien.

The specs of your machine is

        https://support.hp.com/au-en/document/c04536939

It has  802.11b/g/n (1x1) and Bluetooth 4.0 combo (Miracast compatible) wifi adapter. Your machine was built around 2014/2015 therefore you should be able to change wifi adapter. Please use the following list first

  • Realtek RTL8188EE 802.11 b/g/n 1x1 Wi-Fi Adapter
  • Qualcomm Atheros AR9485 802.11 b/g/n 1x1 Wi-Fi Adapter
  • QCA 9565 802.11bgn 1x1 Wi-Fi + BT4.0 Combo Adapter
  • Broadcom BCM43142 802.11bgn 1x1 Wi-Fi + BT 4.0 Combo Adapter
  • Intel Dual Band Wireless-AC 3160 802.11 ac 1x1 WiFi + BT 4.0 Combo Adapter
  • Intel Dual Band Wireless-AC 7260 802.11 ac 2x2 WiFi + BT 4.0 Combo Adapter non-Vpro version for
use with HP ENVY 17 Notebook PC models only

Note: both Intel adapters support Dual band

Regards.
