HP Notebook - 15-ay514tu
Microsoft Windows 10 (32-bit)

Hi, Sorry if covered before. The laptop keeps diconnecting from the internet using both Wi-Fi or Ethernet cable direct to modem. I have other laptops that are connected to the same modem at the same time, via WI-Fi that have no problem with internet connection.

Hi @5t3V3_,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If your HP Notebook is experiencing connectivity issues while other devices on the same network are working fine, there are several potential reasons for this problem. Here are some troubleshooting steps you can take.

Check Wi-Fi Signal Strength:

  • If you're using Wi-Fi, check the signal strength on your HP Notebook. A weak signal can result in intermittent disconnections. Move closer to the router to see if the issue persists.

Update Network Drivers:

  • Ensure that your wireless and Ethernet drivers are up to date. Outdated or incompatible drivers can cause connectivity issues. You can update drivers through the Device Manager on Windows.

Restart Your Router and Modem:

  • Power cycle your router and modem by unplugging them, waiting for about 10 seconds, and then plugging them back in. This can often resolve temporary connectivity issues.

Check for Interference:

  • Other electronic devices, appliances, or neighboring Wi-Fi networks can interfere with your connection. Make sure your router is placed away from potential sources of interference.

Configure DNS Settings:

  • Try using a different DNS server. You can manually set your DNS servers on your HP Notebook to use public DNS servers like Google's (8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4) or Cloudflare's (1.1.1.1).

Disable Power Saving for Network Adapter:

  • Sometimes, power-saving settings can cause connectivity issues. Go to the Device Manager, find your network adapter, right-click on it, go to Properties, and disable any power-saving features.

Check for Malware:

  • Run a malware scan on your HP Notebook. Malware can sometimes interfere with network connections.

Reset Network Settings:

  • On Windows, you can try resetting the network settings to default. Open the Command Prompt as an administrator and type the following commands.

netsh winsock reset

netsh int ip reset

ipconfig /release

ipconfig /renew

Update Firmware:

  • Check if there is a firmware update available for your router. Sometimes, router firmware updates can resolve compatibility issues.

Contact ISP:

  • If the issue persists, contact your Internet Service Provider (ISP) to check if there are any issues on their end or if they can provide further assistance.

If the problem persists after trying these steps, it may be a hardware issue with your HP Notebook's network adapter,

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
