I have the network 5GHz available but it won't show up as an option for me when attempting to connect to a network for wifi. Only 2.4GHz is available. Is there a setting I need to change to find that network?

Does your notebook come with dual band WiFi module?

If no, it cannot connect to 5GHz.

What is the full model name, product number of the notebook?

As suspected, your notebook did not come with dual band card. Hence cannot use 5GHz band.

So, that leaves me questioning my speed test results. When I do it I’m getting crazy low results. Download 40.41Mbps upload 24.73Mbpa.  Is that due to only being able to use the 2.4GHz network? My roommate has a laptop very similar to my able to use the 5GHz network and has speeds over 3x higher.  It this not going to be as fast due to this?

What is quad-core mean? Seems like it should be better since it’s more, but what do I know. Lol

HP Recommended

Most probably yes.

Quad core is the term related to processor speed in your laptop, not WiFi speed.

I’m so confused.. my best friend just bought a laptop and when I compare the specs only differences in our laptops are the SSD and the touchscreen.. why would she be able to connect to the 5GHz network. 15-DB0069WM Is her model number.

Your friend's notebook has this wireless card,

  • Part No: L17365-005
  • Description: SPS-WLAN RT AC 1x1 +BT M.2 2230

This is an ac card which supports 5GHz band.
