HP Laptop with Windows 11 24H2.

I lose my internet connection with sleep or hibernation.

I have tried to solve this issue using a number of online solutions, but they all lead to editing "power management" and I cannot find this option on my laptop.

@JohnnyBob8, Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding Internet Connection Issues with Sleep or Hibernation on HP Laptops!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

If you lose your internet connection when your HP laptop enters sleep or hibernation mode, it typically involves tweaking some settings related to power management or network adapter configurations. Here's a step-by-step guide that might help you resolve the issue:

Accessing Power Management Settings

Open Device Manager:

  • Press Windows + X and select Device Manager.

Find Network Adapter:

  • Expand the Network adapters section.

Edit Power Management:

  • Right-click on your network adapter from the list and select Properties.
  • Go to the Power Management tab (if available).
  • Check if there is an option that says "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power". If present, uncheck the box. This option may prevent your network adapter from disconnecting during sleep or hibernation.

Adjusting Advanced Power Settings

Open Control Panel:

  • Search for and open Control Panel.

Navigate to Power Options:

  • Click on Hardware and Sound and then choose Power Options.

Change Plan Settings:

  • Find your selected power plan and click Change plan settings.
  • Click Change advanced power settings.

Modify Network Adapter Settings:

  • Scroll down to Wireless Adapter Settings.
  • Set the Power Saving Mode to Maximum Performance for both On battery and Plugged in.

Hope this helps!

Take care, and have an amazing day!

Hello Zoey.

Thanks for your reply.

The Device Manager option does not work for me as there is no 'Power Management' tab under Properties.

The Control Panel option does not work for me as there is no 'Hardware and Sound' option under Power Options.

Do you have any further suggestions?

Hey @JohnnyBob8,

My colleague @zoey7886 is currently out, but don't worry – I’ll be taking over and making sure we get this sorted for you.

If you're experiencing internet connectivity issues on your HP laptop running Windows 11 24H2 after it enters sleep or hibernation mode, here are some steps you can take to resolve this issue:

Ensure Network Drivers Are Updated:

  • Visit the HP Support website and ensure that you have the latest drivers installed for your network adapter. Updated drivers can resolve many connectivity issues.

Disable Hybrid Sleep:

  • In the same Power Options menu, expand the Sleep section and then Allow hybrid sleep.
  • Set it to Off for both battery and plugged-in options.

Check for OS Updates:

  • Ensure your Windows operating system is up-to-date. Sometimes patches and updates issued by Microsoft can resolve such issues.

Restart Network Services:

  • Open Command Prompt as an administrator and execute the following commands:
  • net stop "Windows Update"
  • net start "Windows Update"

I hope this helps.

Please feel free to reply here if you have any questions or if you need further clarification on any of the steps.

Take care and have a good day.

None of the solutions have been useful as I do not seem to have the necessary options on my laptop.

I'll just live with it.
