Hi,
I've been unable to get miracast to work with my notebook. When I first try to connect to the wireless display, it finds the display and installs it. The display says that screen mirroring is starting. Then Win10 says there was a problem. Couldn't connect. If I do not remove the wireless display from devices, when I try to connect, the display does nothing. It just waits for a connection.
Notebook was a downgrade (really an upgrade) from Win 8.1 to Win 7 that was updated to Win 10.
I have spent hours scouring the internet for ideas.
1. Netsh and dxdiag says that the Intel HD Graphics 4600 and the Realtek wifi adapter support miracast
2. I have updated all drivers for all devices and firmware
3. Android phone can cast to the wireless display almost immediately with no problems.
4. I have tried the following display drivers: 10.18.15.4248, 10.18.15.4256, 20.19.15.5058
5. I have a NVDIA GeForce GT 740M GPU, but don't think that is a problem
6. I have tried enabling media streaming.
7. I have tried turning off all firewalls
8. I have checked the GPO - no dice
One weird thing is that Outlook reports that it has lost its connection to my exchange server and then reconnects after Windows says it can't connect to the display.
Dell has a driver for the intel 4600 that it says fixes miracast. That is version 10.18.15.4271, A02
On the intel forums, someone reported that version 10.18.15.4256 has miracast working, but not the latest intel drivers.
Any advice?
PS Please don't suggest https://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c05189396 - all it says is to try updating drivers, which doesn't work.

Thank you for posting on HP Support Community.
Don't worry as I'll be glad to help, I have a few troubleshooting steps we could try to fix the issue:
Firstly, make sure your computer supports Miracast before trying to project your screen.
-
If your computer came with Windows 10 pre-installed: It supports Miracast. Continue to the next section to make sure the wireless display supports Miracast.
-
If you upgraded your computer to Windows 10 from Windows 7 or earlier: In Windows, click the Action Center icon
on the taskbar, and then click Connect.
-
If a Searching for wireless display and audio devices message displays, your computer supports Miracast.
-
If a Your PC or mobile device doesn't support Miracast, so it can't project wirelessly message displays, your computer cannot project wirelessly. Go to the Troubleshooting section, and then find Updating your drivers and firmware to update the wireless and graphics drivers for your computer.
-
Next, make sure your wireless display supports Miracast before trying to project your screen.
Check the information that came with your device or go to the manufacturer's website.
-
If the display supports Miracast: Continue to the next step.
-
If the display does not support Miracast: You can use a Miracast wireless display adapter, sometimes called a dongle, that plugs in to an HDMI port on the display. The adapter allows your computer to communicate wirelessly with the display device.
A variety of manufacturers offer Miracast adapters, such as the Actiontec ScreenBeam Wireless Display Receiver and the NetGear Push2TV (PTV3000) Wireless Display Adapter. Follow the manufacturer’s instructions to connect the adapter.
Unable to connect to the wireless display
Try the following suggestions.
-
Confirm that your computer is connected to the wireless network.
-
Restart your computer. Then restart the wireless display and adapter. If using an adapter, remove the adapter from the TV or monitor, restart your device, reinsert the wireless display adapter in the TV or monitor, and attempt to display again.
-
If you are using a wireless display adapter, set the video source to the correct HDMI port (the one that the wireless adapter is connected to). To do this, check the video source settings on your HDTV, monitor, or projects. For instructions, check the information that came with your device or go to the manufacturer's website.
-
If the adapter didn’t connect, open the Action Center, click All Settings, click Devices, and then click Connected Devices. Click Add a device, and then select the wireless display or wireless display adapter.
Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance.

Thanks for the reply.
The laptop supports miracast.
The display supports miracast (using the screen mirroring on a Sony BDP-S6500)
Display has no problem connecting to my Android phone).
I have tried all the steps mentioned above with no success.
I have tried with a different newer HP laptop (Envy x360 Win10 preinstalled). That connects, but the screen on the wireless display is just it's generic background.
Frankly, it just sounds like miracast does not work with HP laptops w/intel graphics running Windows 10.
I suppose I could try miracasting from one laptop to the other (I have no problem miracasting from phone to this laptop)
Any other ideas?

Thank you for posting back.
System Restore returns your computer to the files and settings from the restore point. Your personal files and documents are not affected.
You can also undo a System Restore if the restore does not resolve the issue or if the issue becomes worse.
