This is an HP Pavillion.  All devices in the household except my notebook could access the internet via our household Wifi.  The error message said Cannot Connect to the Internet.  The self-help instructions said unplug and reboot (naturally) which I did, no luck.  Then it suggested checking the adaptor, modem and router by turning each off one by one.  I didn't do this as it seemed that if all other devices remained connected to the internet, the problem did not lie with the Wifi system  What is your feedback?  Thanks.
