@PeterPP14, Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding Wireless Connectivity Issues After Notebook Sleep!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

If your notebook loses Wi-Fi connection when closing and reopening the lid, and you have to restart to reconnect, here are some steps to troubleshoot the problem:

Update Network Drivers:

  • Make sure your wireless network adapter drivers are up to date.
  • Use Device Manager to update drivers. Open Device Manager in Windows, navigate to Network adapters, right-click on your wireless adapter, and select "Update driver."
  • You can also use the HP Support Assistant to check for the latest drivers.

Check Power Management Settings:

  • In Device Manager, right-click on your wireless device and select "Properties."
  • Go to the Power Management tab and uncheck "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power."

Run Windows Network and Internet Troubleshooter:

  • Right-click the network connection icon in the system tray and select "Troubleshoot problems" to allow Windows to diagnose and potentially fix issues with your network connection.

Use HP Support Assistant Network Check:

  • Open HP Support Assistant from your Start Menu, select your device, and run HP Network Check under Troubleshooting and Fixes.

Hope this helps!

Take care, and have an amazing day!

We have numerous reports that this issue happened to notebooks/laptops ever since this week. The mutual indication seems to be that once the laptop went to sleep mode (lid closed down) then waking it up again sometime later (opening the lid), Wi-Fi is then missing, both from settings and device manager.

And as OP mentioned, a quick restart seems to fix the issue.

I would like to also add that we saw those affected laptops did a Windows update of Security Intelligence Update for Microsoft Defender Antivirus - KB2267602 (Version 1.433.253.0) just before the issue happened (take this info with a grain of salt, cant confirm if this is the cause yet)

I think "Power management tab" had been missing/disabled intentionally by many vendor and products to reduce carbon emission or something. I cant seems to find it.
