Realtek RTL8723BE 802.11 bgn Wi-Fi Adapter  is no longer listed in device namager, so I am unable to update drivers.

Was working fine yesterday.  

Ethernet connection does work and I am installing all HP updates

If the device drivers are not installed, then it will show with exclamation mark. However, if the device has gone faulty, then it may not detect in device manager.

 

If you are comfortable, then remove, clean & reseat the WLAN Card on the Notebook, then check if it gets detected in device manager (if required get the drivers installed).
