Did I make a mistake buying a laptop with this wifi card?  What I found when I first got the laptop is that it would either not find or would not stay on 5ghz wifi when using channels above 44.   But that was fine because I could set the channel in my router for 5ghz wifi and then it was fine.

However recently I installed a Google Nest mesh wifi to improve reception away from the router ... and that product does NOT let users choose the channel for the 5ghz wifi - so it offers devices much higher bands than 44.  I think perhaps as a result I find the RTL8822EE is sometimes randomly dropping back to 2.4ghz ... even when I am sitting right next to the Nest wifi point.  It's quite aggravating as all my other devices in the house (2 other HP Windows computers ... a Surface Go ... smart TV ... fire stick ... iphones and android phones) have no problems connecting wifi on 5ghz ...only  this new HP laptop is the one that struggles with 5ghz using Google Nest wifi points and drops back to 2.4ghz.   Is there an option to open up the laptop and replacing the Realtek card in favour of a rock-solid Intel wifi card (I don't like to do this for a laptop still under warranty)?

Otherwise what are the chances the problem can be fixed by changing Window driver settings or a new driver in the future improving the behaviour of the card?

I have all latest Windows 11 updates installed (as well as running HP Support Assistant to ensure all drivers are the latest officially recognised).

That must be hard. Don't worry as I'll be glad to help,

I appreciate your efforts to try and resolve the issue.  Let's install softpaq SP103951 File Download in order to resolve this issue.

Thank you for assisting.

Can I just confirm ... my current bios is "F.20" (vendor: Insyde) ... can I confirm you recommend me to downgrade to an earlier BIOS  version F.06, as this it what this software package appears to be doing.  I'm quite concerned about updating BIOS at any time ... would normally only do this if it came from HP Support Assistant.

Thank you for posting back.

Due to driver conflict flashing BIOS version F.06 will resolve the issue and updated version with bug fix will be rolled out shorty via Windows update or HP support assistance.

Keep me posted!

During the install (HP Bios update utility?), it says "The BIOS update is not compatible with this device"  and the option to "Update" is disabled.  So the only options offered are "Copy" or "Create USB flash recovery for another device".

Use a second working computer with an active internet connection to create a BIOS recovery USB flash drive.

  1. Get the product number for the original notebook that requires a BIOS recovery. This number is typically found on a label on the bottom of the notebook or on the box it shipped in.

Go to How Do I Find My Model Number or Product Number? for additional options.

NOTE: The general or series name near the keyboard or on the frame around the screen is not specific enough to identify the correct download files.

Notebook computer label enlarged to show product information

  2. Insert a blank USB flash drive into an available port on the second computer.

  3. Go to the HP Customer Support - Software and Driver Downloads page.

  4. Navigate to the product page for your computer.

  5. Select BIOS, and then review the details of the latest available version or the specific version recommended for the recovery. Confirm that it is the correct BIOS update before proceeding.

CAUTION: Read the Details' section to confirm that it applies to the computer. Installing the wrong BIOS could cause the computer to stop working.
  6. Click Download > Run.

  7. Click Yes on the User Account Control screen.

  8. On the InstallShield Wizard window, click Next.

  9. Select I accept the terms in the license agreement, and then click Next.

  10. In the HP BIOS Update and Recovery window, click Next.

  11. Select Create Recovery USB flash drive, and then click Next.

  12. Select your USB flash drive, and then click Next.

  13. Wait while the BIOS files copy to the drive.

  14. When The recovery flash drive was created successfully message is displayed, click Finish.

  15. If necessary, click Cancel to close the update utility.

  16. Remove the USB flash drive from the computer.

Install the BIOS recovery file:

  1. Turn off the notebook that requires the BIOS recovery, and then wait 5 to 10 seconds.

  2. Make sure that the AC adapter is connected to the notebook during the recovery process.

  3. Insert the USB flash drive with the BIOS file into an available USB port on the notebook.

  4. Press and hold the Windows + B keys, and then simultaneously press and hold the power button.

On some notebook models, you instead might need to press and hold the Windows + V keys.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance.
