Hi, @mttmccll

Your notebook does not have a BIOS whitelist.

You can upgrade your notebook to this model wifi adapter.

Intel Dual Band Wireless-AC 7260 802.11 ac 2x2 WiFi + BT 4.0     HP Part # 710661-001

There should be several to choose from on eBay in used but tested and working condition.

Many forum members have upgraded the wifi cards in their dv6/dv7-7xxx Intel notebooks with that card.

Search by the HP part number, not the model of the wireless card.

There are many generations with many models/products of dv7 machines.  Before we can help, we need to know what EXACTLY is your HP Pavilion dv7 notebook ? Please use the following instructions to find out the model/product of your machine:

Your machine is an HP Pavilion dv7t-7000 CTO, It is a CTO (Configure To Order) machine therefore no available specs. But from its manual (the last manual on the list):

     https://support.hp.com/us-en/product/hp-pavilion-dv7-7000-select-edition-entertainment-notebook-pc-s...

It was built around early 2012 which is long time before late 2014. Due to the whitelist, you can only use parts on page 55 of the manual. Looks like none of them supports 5.0GHz. Option

Few weeks ago, for testing, I bought the following wifi card for my 11 years old machine

         https://www.scorptec.com.au/product/Networking/Adapters/60514-7265.NGWWB.W

Unfortunately my machine uses different format, not M.2, physically won't fit therefore I went to the shop and swap to the following one (I did not have to pay more, they are same price):

       https://www.scorptec.com.au/product/Networking/Adapters/67965-USB-AC53-NANO

And it works perfectly, get same result (download speed) with the 1G wired on same machine.

Regards.

That WiFi card intel dual band wireless ac 7260 works perfectly for my laptop!! Thank you

Thanks for your help, but the intel dual band wireless ac 7260 was a little cheaper so I bought that instead. That usb WiFi card would work great if I had more computers then I could just move it from pc to pc at my will.
