Hi:

The chipset driver I posted above will install the:

SM Bus Controller

Coprocessor

Ethernet Controller

The card reader driver will install the 3 base system devices...

This package contains the driver for the Ricoh 5-in-1 Card Reader for the supported notebook models and operating systems.

http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softlib/software9/COL19729/ob-55777-1/sp37726.exe

One of the unknown devices needs this driver...

This package contains the software that enables the Quick Launch Buttons on the keyboard and the external Easy Access Buttons Keyboard to be programmed for the supported notebook models and operating systems. This application enables menu control of various bezel buttons, such as volume, internal/external display, and mute on/off; HotKeys; and Docked Events.

I would need you to post the hardware ID's for the other unknown device remaining after you install the drivers.

You need to download the driver files onto another PC, copy them to a usb flash drive and install them on your PC with the flash drive.

I am concerned that there is no device listed as a Network Controller showing up in the device manager.

Make sure the front wireless slide switch is to the on position.  I forgot which way turns it on, so slide it both ways,

If it is, there is a good possibility the motherboard has a problem.  A very common problem in the dv6000 and dv9000 model series.  The motherboard overheats and cuts the power to the socket the wireless card is plugged into.

To confirm that the motherboard has an issue, install the HP wireless assistant software, restart the PC and see if you can turn the wireless on by using this software.

This package contains the HP Wireless Assistant for the supported notebook models and operating systems. The HP Wireless Assistant is a user application that provides a way to control the enablement of the radios for individual wireless devices (such as Bluetooth, WLAN, or WWAN devices) and that shows the state of the radios for these wireless devices.

Paul,

things are working a little funny. and i noticed there are two more errors on unknown devices that were not fixed. any idea what these could be? both are listed under "other devices" . im noticing that when i try to pull up any website, i get an error on the page that says there are unsecure objects on the page and asks if i still want to display them. and then its not reading the script i guess because the words and pictures are all over the place on certain web pages.

thanks if you have any advice!

Hi:

Please post the hardware ID's for the devices that need drivers.  Then I will post the links to the drivers you need.

Use this guide for how to find the hardware ID...

https://www.howtogeek.com/193798/how-to-find-drivers-for-unknown-devices-in-the-device-manager/

Internet Explorer 9 is no longer supported, and many webpages will not display correctly anymore.

I highly recommend you intall Firefox and use that as your default browser on Vista.
