I am not the original owner - my friend asked me to recycle his laptop for resale. Everything was OK but I couldn't connect to Wifi with the Ralink RT3290 card. I decided to replace it with a more stable model because there are numerous complaints about it. Here's what I found - the card becomes so hot that it melted the plastic frame and the cover!
Just a warning that this Wifi card is dangerous.

I also have this issue. Is there a recall on this wifi card? My daughter has had this laptop for quite awhile and didn't even notice the melted spot until she brought it to me saying she couldn't hook up to the internet. This could have had caused a real problem including a fire, any solutions out there? Which wifi card is compatible with this old computer? Its and HP Pavilition G6 Notebook still running Windows 8.1
