So I have been trying to configure wake up on LAN functionality on my HP Victus Laptop and have faced so many hurdles and the overall process is really painful and frustrating.
To begin with, I have all the regular settings in check, my router is configured for port forwarding and dhcp reservation for my laptop connected with an Etherenet cable, on the BIOS Side of things this is how my advanced tab looks like, all the necessary/relevant and limited options I have been given access to are enabled for WOL to work:
On the Window's side of things all of the power options are configured correctly, fast start up is disabled in the control panel and I even turned of all or any power saving/pci express power disabling setting I could come across in the edit power plan tab.
Furthermore I eventually disabled my wifi driver, even though I am aware of it might not have nothing to with the WOL functionality I am trying to confifure over the ethernet cable, and my ethernet driver looks like this currently: advanced eee, energy efficient ethernet ,power saving and green ethernet are disabled; shutdown wake on lan, wake on magic packet and wake on magic packet when system is in the S0ix power state are enabled and the WOL and shutdown speed is 10mbps (the recc for WOL, I believe).
Even with all these settings in place I am unable to wake the computer on LAN in sleep mode, and I don't know what is causing this, I gathered that the network card is not receiving any power becasue when I put the computer to sleep the lights on the ethernet port turn off too, which might be because the laptop doesn't supports the legacy S3 mode, according to powercfg /a in cmd, this is the output I get:
"The following sleep states are available on this system:
Standby (S0 Low Power Idle) Network Connected
Hibernate
The following sleep states are not available on this system:
Standby (S1)
The system firmware does not support this standby state.
This standby state is disabled when S0 low power idle is supported.
Standby (S2)
The system firmware does not support this standby state.
This standby state is disabled when S0 low power idle is supported.
Standby (S3)
The system firmware does not support this standby state.
This standby state is disabled when S0 low power idle is supported.
Hybrid Sleep
Standby (S3) is not available.
The hypervisor does not support this standby state.
Fast Startup
This action is disabled in the current system policy. //this is what the command outputted"
I am still refusing to believe the fact that HP and Windows will have all these WOL related settings available in the BIOS/Drivers only for it to not work at all on laptops, another culprit here can be Omen gaming hub tampering with power management, but I don't think it is the case, I can't seem to find any relevant setting in their and don't wanna get rid of it or HP assistant to test my hypothesis, that's why I come here to ask the experts and HP staff so they can help me configure WOL on my laptop.

@Hagdo, Welcome to HP Support Community,
Thank you for posting your query; I’m here to help by guiding you through steps to resolve this issue
I understand how frustrating it can be trying to get Wake-on-LAN (WOL) working, especially when you've done everything right on your end — and you've done a very thorough job with your setup, so thank you for the details.
Based on the BIOS image and system info you’ve shared (HP Victus 16-s0000 running Windows 11), I’d like to clarify a few important points:
Current Issue:
Your system supports Modern Standby (S0ix), not the older S3 Sleep mode. Unfortunately, this impacts Wake-on-LAN because in S0ix, the system looks like it’s on, but components like the Ethernet port may still lose power — which explains why the port lights turn off in sleep.
Even though you’ve enabled all the necessary BIOS and Windows settings (including "S4/S5 Wake on LAN"), WOL from Sleep mode is generally not supported on many HP consumer laptops using S0ix.
What You Can Try:
Since "S4/S5 Wake on LAN" is enabled in your BIOS, please try hibernating your laptop and then sending the packet. If the Ethernet port stays active, this should work.
Always ensure you have the latest BIOS and Realtek LAN drivers from HP Support Assistant or the HP website.
I hope this helps.
Please feel free to reply here if you have any questions or if you need further clarification on any of the steps.
Take care and have a good day.

Good morning, I have tested in hibernation mode but to no avail, I will retry it with more patience today and report back, as far as the S03 mode goes, funnily enough I was able to create a registry key that sometimes overrides the S0IX mode, as often when I leave my laptop idle and it goes into the "sleep" mode, I can see the ethernet port still lit, but it only happens when the Laptop puts itself to sleep and not when I click the sleep button for testing, nonetheless, it happens sometimes on its own at random and is not dependable, because the packet never goes through anyway...

Hi @Hagdo,
@Garp_senchau is away for now, however, I'm @zoey7886 and I'll be happy to help you out!
Thanks for following up and sharing those extra details — really appreciate your patience with this tricky setup.
You're right that the S0ix behavior can be a bit inconsistent, especially with some registry tweaks possibly affecting how sleep behaves. If the Ethernet port stays lit during idle sleep sometimes, it's likely entering a low-power connected state, but unfortunately, unless it's consistent and the NIC remains powered, WOL won’t reliably work.
Here’s what I’d recommend next:
- Stick to Hibernation (S4) or a full shutdown for WOL, as that’s what “S4/S5 Wake on LAN” in BIOS actually supports.
- Make sure the MAC address is not reset by Windows during shutdown (check advanced NIC settings for “Network Address”).
- Double-check your router’s port forwarding and ARP binding to make sure it’s holding the IP-MAC mapping while the device is off.
- And yes, ensure BIOS and NIC drivers are fully up to date from the HP support site.
Modern Standby does limit traditional WOL in sleep mode on many consumer laptops, including Victus, and we understand how frustrating that is. You're not alone, and we're here to help however we can.
Let us know how the next test goes — fingers crossed! 🤞
