Wifi connection keeps dropping randomly from a few minutes to couple of hours

HP ENvy x360 13" Ryzen 7
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

SYMPTOMS:

1. HP Envy x360 13" Ryzen 7's Wifi connection has been randomly lost but still connecting to the SSID and showing No internet. ( Home wifi ). The connection lasted from a few minutes to a couple of hours. While other mobile devices (e.g. smartphone and tablet) have no such the problem.

2. At the wifi icon has yellow triangle with exclamation mark in it.

3. After right clicking on the wifi icon and then selecting troubleshooting, the connection is back and the message of "Default gateway was not available." But the connection did not last long.

4. The wifi connectionง's problem is quite rare when using at work.

Note: The Wifi adapter is RealTek RTL8822BE 802.11ac PCIe Adapter

ACTIONS DONE

1. Typing devmgmt.msc at the search box => select network adapter => right click at Network Adapter name (RealTek RTL8822BE 802.11ac PCIe Adapter) => select properties from the dropdown list => select Energy Management => uncheck Allow the PC to turn off the device to save energy => click OK

2. Typing devmgmt.msc at the search box => select network adapter => right click at Network Adapter name (RealTek RTL8822BE 802.11ac PCIe Adapter) => Click update the driver

3. Right clicking at the start menu => select Energy usage => select Addtional setting of energy usage => change the energy setting plan => advanced setting => Energy setting for wireless adapter, energy saving => select maximum performance when on battery power

4. uninstall the wireless network adapter => restart the laptop => update the wireless adapter driver selected from the laptop => #1 and #2

5. change the channel of 2.4GHz band of SSID from 7 to 11 to avoid jam and for 5GHz from 36 to 44

THOUGH SO MANY ACTIONS HAVE BEEN DONE, THE PROBLEM HAS NOT BEEN FIXED YET!!!

COULD YOU PLEASE HELP SUGGEST THE PERMANENT FIX FOR THE ISSUE?

Wifi connection keeps dropping randomly from a few minutes to couple of hours

Hi:

I have read several complaints about that model wifi card.

The only suggestion I can offer, would be to update the wifi and bluetooth drivers to their latest versions.

The ones on the support page are outdated.

HI Paul,

Thanks for your info.

I have tried it with installing new driver as you suggested (2024.0.6.104) but it's still not solved yet.

I've still experienced "yellow triangle with ! mark in it" from time to time.

FYI

1. My previous driver version was 2024.0.5.101.

2. My home wifi router is

     - HUMAX Cable RG Product

     - Model: HG100RG-02V

3. Dual bands

    - 2.4GHz setting wireless mode = B+G+N

    - 5GHz setting wireless mode = A+N

The situation is really pain at the neck. Please help!

I don´t have the same computer, but my laptop have the same wifi adapter and i have done the same actions like you but keep having the problem.

I have learned that if my laptop is connected with the charger it keeps the internet connection, but if i take it off the charger it will loose coonection within minutes and the wifi card will have to be reset. I don´t know if you have had the same experiences ?

I hope that there will be a solution to this problem at one point.

Wifi connection keeps dropping randomly from a few minutes to couple of hours

Hi guys. I am having an absolutely the same problem with my brand new HP Pavilion 13-an0031ur that has Realtek RTL8822BE 802.11ac  on board.

And yes, when it's charging seems that everything's ok.

A big request to the HP guys - please solve that problem ASAP, contact Realtek, if necessary. Otherwise I ll have to insist on returning the product.

Wifi connection keeps dropping randomly from a few minutes to couple of hours

Dear Kobhsc,

I have had the same problem and I am using the same wifi card.

However, I think I have found a solution.

I have upgraded the drivers to the following version (see picture).

In order to upgrade to this driver version one must update windows to build 1809.

The following link can be used to update the driver: https://www.catalog.update.microsoft.com/Search.aspx?q=%09Realtek+Semiconductor+Corp.+Net

Let me know if it worked.

Wifi connection keeps dropping randomly from a few minutes to couple of hours

Hi, All:

On that same link that @Laurens_1996 posted, there is actually a newer driver for the RTL8821 and RTL8822 wifi adapters.

04/12/2019,   2024.0.9.101

I have zipped it up and attached it below.

Unzip the file to its folder.  Do not do anything with the files in the folder.

Go to the device manager.

Click to expand the Network Adapters device manager category.

Click on the Realtek 8822 wifi adapter listed there.

Click on the driver tab.  Click on Update Driver.

Select the Browse my computer for driver software option, and browse to the driver folder you unzipped.

Make sure the Include Subfolders box is checked, and the driver should install.

Then restart the PC.

Hi Paul,

Thanks so much for the latest version of the driver.

The version of the driver from your ZIP  is 2024.0.9.101 with dated 4/12/2019

I have just installed it and kept monitoring if any issue may recur.

I'll let you know if it really works.

Keep my finger crossed!

Cheers,

Wifi connection keeps dropping randomly from a few minutes to couple of hours

HI Paul,

According to the detail info of the driver 2024.0.9.101, there are only RealTek 8821CE drivers  of WIndows 10 version 1809 and 1803.

Is your zipped files for 8821CE or 8822BE   of WIndows 10 version 1809 or 1803?  Are they compatible?

Mine is 8822BE, though, which the latest one in the website is the version of 2024.0.8.105 with  WIndows 10 version 1809 and 1803.

However, I have installed the driver files you shared successfully.

After updating the driver and using the laptop connecting to my home wifi for an hour or so , I experienced No Internet situation (Yellow triangle with exclamation mark in it) once, then reconnect it and still using it now.

Please kindly suggest.
