Hi @Barbadams128,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

When your laptop is not detecting any Wi-Fi networks and only shows options like "Airplane Mode" or "Network and Internet Settings," it can be due to several potential issues. Here’s a comprehensive guide to troubleshoot and hopefully resolve the issue:

**1. Check Airplane Mode

  • Toggle Airplane Mode:
    1. Go to Settings > Network & Internet.
    2. Ensure that Airplane mode is turned off.
    3. If it's already off, toggle it on and then off again to refresh the setting.

**2. Restart Your Laptop and Router

  • Restart Laptop:
    • Sometimes a simple restart can resolve connectivity issues. Restart your laptop and check if it detects Wi-Fi networks.
  • Restart Router:
    • Power off your router, wait for about 30 seconds, and then power it back on. Check if your laptop detects the network after the router restarts.

**3. Check Wi-Fi Adapter

  • Enable Wi-Fi Adapter:
    1. Go to Device Manager (right-click the Start button and select Device Manager).
    2. Expand Network adapters and look for your Wi-Fi adapter.
    3. Right-click the Wi-Fi adapter and select Enable if it is disabled.
  • Update Wi-Fi Adapter Driver:
    1. In Device Manager, right-click your Wi-Fi adapter.
    2. Select Update driver and choose Search automatically for updated driver software.

**4. Run Network Troubleshooter

  • Use Windows Troubleshooter:
    1. Go to Settings > Update & Security > Troubleshoot.
    2. Click on Internet Connections and then Run the troubleshooter.
    3. Follow the prompts to detect and fix any issues.

**5. Reset Network Settings

  • Network Reset:
    1. Go to Settings > Network & Internet > Status.
    2. Scroll down and click on Network reset.
    3. Click Reset now and confirm. This will remove and reinstall your network adapters and set other networking components back to their original settings.

**6. Check for Windows Updates

  • Install Updates:
    1. Go to Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update.
    2. Check for updates and install any available updates. Sometimes updates include fixes for network issues.

**7. Check Wi-Fi Service

  • Ensure WLAN Service is Running:
    1. Press Win + R to open the Run dialog, type services.msc, and press Enter.
    2. Locate WLAN AutoConfig in the list.
    3. Right-click it and select Restart. Ensure that the service is set to Automatic.

**8. Check Physical Switch or Key Combination

  • Laptop Wireless Switch: Some laptops have a physical switch or a key combination (e.g., Fn + F2) to enable/disable Wi-Fi. Ensure that Wi-Fi is enabled using these controls.

**9. Inspect Wi-Fi Adapter Settings

  • Network Adapter Settings:
    1. Go to Control Panel > Network and Sharing Center > Change adapter settings.
    2. Ensure that your Wi-Fi adapter is listed and not disabled.
    3. Right-click on your Wi-Fi adapter and select Properties to check settings.

**10. Check for Hardware Issues

  • Inspect Wi-Fi Adapter: If the adapter is removable, ensure it is properly seated. If it's internal, consider having it checked by a professional.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
