I turned on my computer this morning after a Windows update and it wouldn't allow me to connect to my wifi. Initially it said that I was manually connected to an old network but I deleted that and tried to manually connect to my home network but no luck. I worked through all the trouble shooting options and checked to see if the driver was up to date (it was) - all without success. My computer allows me to connect an ethernet cord to it and the router and use the internet that way. I know it's not the router because I use the internet wi-fi with my iPad. Here are some specifics:
Product Model: E4X87PA
Product Name: HP Pavilion TouchSmart 11-e004au Notebook PC
Driver: Ralink RT3290 802.11bgn wi fi adaptor
When I look at the Driver details it appears it is a 32 system driver whereas I believe I am running a 64 bit operating system( but I might be misreading this as I don't know a lot about these things).
Can anyone help?

Hi @Kvslt,
Welcome to The HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
I understand you are facing an issue with your HP Pavilion TouchSmart 11-e004au having a Wi-Fi issue after a recent Windows update.
Here are some troubleshooting steps you can try to fix the problem:
Please try the following Troubleshoots steps.
1. Turn off the Unit.
2. Disconnect the AC adapter.
3. Remove any discs from the disc drive.
4. Remove memory cards from the card reader slot.
5. Disconnect all nonessential peripheral devices, such as printers, scanners, external hard drives, and USB flash drives.
6. Disconnect the AC adapter press and hold the power button for approximately 15 seconds.
7. Reconnect the AC adapter, and then turn on the computer.
Step 2
Turn off the unit and please press and hold the Windows key + letter B key and the power button together for 30 seconds after 30 seconds, 1st release the power button but keep holding the Windows key and B key for ten more seconds and then release these two keys If done correctly, you will see the display flashing once. Please attempt it thrice as this step and Restart the unit
Step3
The unit has to be turned off, Press Win+ V while holding these two keys then Press the Power button, continue to hold all three keys for 30 seconds and then release the Power button first and then release these two keys Please attempt it thrice and then you may get a Pop-Up CMOS Check and it will restart the unit
Even if you don't get a Pop-up restart the unit manually after 3 attempts.
Uninstall drivers on Device Manager
Open device manage to Uninstall network drivers on Device Manager
1. Open Start.
2. Search for Device Manager and click the top result to open the app.
3. Expand the category with the device driver to remove.
4. Right-click the network and (one by one )device and select the Uninstall device option.
5. Click the Uninstall button. Once you complete the steps, the driver will be entirely removed from the computer.
Restart the unit
Restart your computer and router: This might seem simple, but a restart can often resolve temporary glitches.
Forget Wi-Fi network and reconnect: Try forgetting the saved Wi-Fi network on your laptop and then re-entering the password to connect again. This can sometimes clear up connection issues.
Update Wi-Fi driver: Even though you checked for updates, reinstalling the driver can sometimes fix problems. Here's how to do it:
- Go to Device Manager.
- Expand Network adapters.
- Right-click on your Wi-Fi adapter (might be named Ralink RT3290) and select Uninstall device.
- Check the box to Delete the driver software for this device (if available) and click Uninstall.
- Restart your computer. Windows will automatically reinstall the driver.
Run troubleshooter: Windows has a built-in troubleshooter that can help diagnose and fix Wi-Fi problems.
- Go to Start menu > Settings > Network & Internet.
- Click on Wi-Fi.
- Click on Troubleshoot problems.
System Restore: If the problem started after the Windows update, you can try performing a system restore to a point before the update. This will revert your system settings to that point in time.
Additional Tips:
- Make sure the Airplane mode is off.
- Check for any interference near your computer that might be affecting the Wi-Fi signal.
