HP Notebook - 15-bw055sa

My notebook, HP Notebook - 15-bw055sa, has developed a problem where access to the internet is lost almost immediately or within  a few minutes of browsing.

Connection to the router works just fine - no reported errors on sign-in.

The ipconfig utility shows a valid IP address, within the range of DHCP settings. Pinging a known server, such as yahoo.com, is successful, but will fail after a little while (normally within a minute).

Resetting the adapter (disable/enable) will briefly restore internet connectivity, but that does not last for any significant time.

I have applied the latest Driver (Realtek RTL8xxx Wireless LAN), SP968665, but the symptoms remain.

Using a USB wireless adapter works with no problem, along with all of the other devices on my local network (phones,smart speakers, tablets and computers).

I suspect that the WLAN module has a hardware issue.

Is the WLAN module replaceable?

I reviewed your post and I understand that the wireless connection drop within a minute.

 

Don’t worry, I assure you I will try my best to get this sorted.

 

Yes, the wireless card on the computer is replaceable and you can purchase a new one and replace it.  However, I recommend you follow the below steps and check if it helps.

 

Reset the TCP/IP settings on your PC:

1. Go to your start screen/menu and type CMD.

2. Right click on the command prompt icon and chose Run as administrator.

3. In the window that opens type "netsh int ip reset resetlog.txt" without quotes, and press enter.

4. Restart your PC and test.

 

It may also help to reset the winsock catalogue:

1. Go to your start screen/menu and type CMD.

2. Right click on the command prompt icon and chose Run as administrator.

3. In the window that opens type "netsh winsock reset" without quotes, and press enter.

4. Restart your PC and test.

 

Reinstall the network adapter drivers:

1. Download the drivers from here but do not run them yet.

2. Go to your start screen/menu and type Device Manager.

3. Expand Network adapters.

4. Right click on the wireless adapter and choose Uninstall.

5. Run the downloaded drivers from step 1.

6. Restart your PC and test.

Hello,

Many thanks for the suggestions. I had seen this information in other support forums.

I did try it, but the problem persists.

I have reloaded the OS, and even with a 'clean' system, it did not resolve the problem.

I'll order a replacement adapter.

In the meantime a USB NIC works perfectly.
