Wireless adapter problem

My G71 laptop is failing to turn on the wireless network adapter, an Intel Centrino Wireless-N 1000. The troubleshooting report says it is not fixed and experiencing hardware or software problems. I tried to update the drivers which were the latest available. In the events it shows the device was deleted, install requested, configured but not started. Later it was configured and still not started. Finally it installed but still didn’t work. Another try and the device was deleted, configured and started, but still failed to work with wireless. The info given when it said the device started reads “Device PCI \VEN_8086&DEV_0084&SUBSYS_13158086&REV_00\4&107f88cb&0&00E0 was started.

There is a switch above the keyboard that is lighted yellow when WiFi is off and blue when on. It only lighted blue when pressed for several seconds, and even after that the WiFi didn’t work. Since I get the message that I have the latest drivers I suspect the drivers are ok but the adapter is bad. That raises 3 questions.

1. Is it fair to conclude the adapter is bad?

2. There are sources for adapters with the same model but they have other markings. Will any model that matches the 112BNHMW in my laptop?

3. With Windows 10 home do I need a different adapter? (I thought I saw a post where there are other models that would work and might be better to use with windows 10)

According to the supported operating systems chart my model adapter is supported wit windows 10 and noted “inbox driver”. What does this mean?

What that means is the driver from the Microsoft Update Catalog is supposed to work.

However, I believe that model wifi card no longer works on the newer releases of W10, but you have nothing to lose by trying it.

It may have worked in 2015, but now it is 2020 and many releases of W10 have gone by.

Since your notebook has a BIOS whitelist, upgrading the internal card to something that may work is not possible.
