zBook G5, Thunderbolt 120W G2
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I have recently purchased a HP ZBook G5. I want to use my ZBook as a desktop at work. I have two monitors, keyboard, mouse and network that I didn't want to plug in everything. HP support recommend the Thunderbolt Doc 120W G2 dock. I just received it and the monitors, keyboard, mouse, and network work but the dock will not power my notebook.

I have updated all the software for both and did a firmware update on the dock and still NO Power to the ZBook.

I don't want to have to use my power supply from home to power up the laptop at the same time I am plugged into the dock station.

Any suggestions?

Thanks!

For your system you need the Thunderbolt Doc 230W G2 which is designed to work with Workstations.  The Thunderbolt Doc 120W G2 dock is designed to work with Notebooks that don't require as much power.  I believe the minimum power supply for your notebook is 150W.  The 120W doc can't pass enough power through to your system.

Thanks Joel.  I talked to an HP technical support person. I first had the USB-C dock and he said that was wrong and  this I needed this Thunderbolt 120W G2. He put the order in for me. I told him exactly what I wanted to do. I wonder why they had me purchase the wrong product again!

I thank you for the information. I will have to talk to them again about ordering me the wrong dock.

Nicole,

Sorry for the confusion.  I am not sure why they have confused the two docking stations since the 230w is the specific version for workstations due to their power requirements.
