I am trying to use Direct WIFI with my Windows 10 laptop and my HP Officejet Pro 6978 printer. I have the printer with Wireless ON and the printer wireless indicator is solid blue and printer WiFi Direct details shows Status = On, WiFi Direct Name = DIRECT-61-HP-OfficeJet Pro 6970, and WiFi Password = 12345678. I next try to connect DIRECT-61-HP-OfficeJet Pro 6970 to my laptop by selecting the Internet connect icon for DIRECT-61-HP-OfficeJet 6970 icon and then connect. I then enter the 8 digit WiFi password of 12345678 for the PIN and then clicking the Next button. The program responds with “the Pin isn’t correct, Please try again”. I keep trying, but continue to be unsuccessful. Since “12345678” appears to be an invalid password, how do I get password for my printer?

I have gone through your Post and would like to help
Let's try restoring the Printer's Network back to defaults
1, From the printer control panel, touch or swipe down the tab at the top of the screen to open the Dashboard, and then touch ( Setup ).
2. Touch Network Setup.
3. Touch Restore Network Settings. A message appears stating that the network defaults will be restored.
4. Touch Yes.
5. Print the network configuration page and verify that the network settings have been reset.
Also ensure the printer has the latest Firmware. Link: https://support.hp.com/in-en/document/c02919168
Try connecting back to WiFi-Direct and let me know how it goes
