Hello again
Is the wireless adapter something a novice can replace? If so what part would I need to purchase
thanks so much
Carl
The Atheros wireless network adapter your notebook has is only capable of transmitting and receiving on the 2.4 GHz wireless network band.

Hi, Carl:
Replacing the wireless card in that model would be too difficult, but unfortunately, HP did not offer any dual band wireless cards for that model series.
Chapter 3, page 21 of the service manual below only lists 3 model wlan cards of which your model can only use the Atheros and Ralink one, and they are both single band cards.

Also, HP employed a BIOS whitelist in that model series, which prevents users from installing any other wireless network adapter not listed in the service manual.
Installing a wireless card not listed in the service manual would result in the notebook halting on boot at the HP welcome screen until the unsupported wlan card was removed.
So, if you want dual band capability for your notebook, you would have to purchase an external usb dual band wireless network adapter.
