Hi @dixie253,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

I understand how frustrating it is when your HP LaserJet MFP 234sdw won't print, even though it appears connected. Let's walk through a few essential, effective steps to get it back to printing smoothly.

Quick Power & Connection Reset

  1. Turn off the printer and unplug its power cable from the outlet.
  2. Wait 1 minute, then plug it back in and turn the printer on again.
    • This full power reset clears internal errors and memory issues.

Disable Smart Install (For USB Connections)

If you're using USB:

  1. On the printer’s control panel, go to ServiceSmart Install → set to Off.
  2. Restart your computer, then try printing again.

Network & Default Printer Check

  1. Open Settings → Bluetooth & Devices → Printers & Scanners
  2. Make sure HP LaserJet MFP 234sdw is set as the Default printer.
  3. If it's listed as Offline, right‑click it and select Use Printer Online.

Clear Print Queue & Restart Spooler

  1. Open Services (type "services.msc" in Windows).
  2. Locate Print Spooler, right-click → Restart.
  3. Navigate to C:\Windows\System32\spool\PRINTERS and delete all files inside.
  4. Try printing again.

Firmware Update & Factory Reset

  1. Log in to your printer via HP Smart or the Embedded Web Server (enter its IP in a browser).
  2. Check for firmware updates and install if available. Regular updates resolve known printing issues.
  3. If problems persist, restore factory settings:
    • On the printer panel: Setup → Service → Restore Defaults, then reconnect and update drivers.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have an amazing day!
