Hi, I have a pavilion dv6 - windows 7 home premium. everything was working fine till recently but since this morning my wireless connection is coming up as 'public network' with an error message 'unidentifed network - no internet access'. its connected to router as usual with strong signals and other computers on wireless are working just fine. I did not change anything on my laptop but now I have tried all the solutions mentioned on internet. restarting/uninstalling-installing drivers/ updating drivers/called HP support/safemode networking but nothing has worked so far. I am running AVG antivirus if thats important. any other ideas will be much appreciated. and how can i change a public network to my home netowrk in this case??

thanks

Hi,

It may be an idea to set up a Static IP address to see if this will allow you to connect.

Open windows Control Panel and open Network and Sharing Centre.  Click Change adapter settings and in the following window, right click your wireless connection and select Properties.  Left click on Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4) to highlight it ( click on the wording and not the box with the tick ) then click the Properties button.  Click the radio button next to 'Use the following IP Address and then enter the following values.

IP Address                                192.168.1.110

Subnet Mask                             255.255.255.0

Default Gateway                        192.168.1.1

Also, assign the following DNS Server Addresses

Preferred DNS Server               208.67.222.222             ( These belong to OpenDNS )

Alternate DNS Server                208.67.220.220

After entering these values, remember to click OK to each open Window, before restarting the notebook.

Hi,

From the Start Menu, open All Programs, open Accessories, right click the Command Prompt and select 'Run as Administrator'.  In to the prompt type the following command and hit enter.

ipconfig /all                        ( Note that there is a space between ipcofig and the / ).

Copy and paste the results into Notepad and then copy and paste these details with your next post.
