wont detect wi-fi at all. only way to get internet is thru ethernet cable. only shows ethernet as connected or not connected. Tried device manager to update drivers and they were up to date. The f12 (wireless/airplane mode) button has an amber light that wont turn off. However it does turn airplane on off

Thank you for posting on the HP Support Community.
- Did this happen after a recent window or software update?
- Have you made any hardware/software changes?
- Do you see an exclamation mark on network bar? ( bottom right corner )
While you respond to that, let's try these steps:
Hard Reset: Follow steps from the link: https://hp.care/2GnkMa8.
BIOS default:
- Turn off the computer and wait five seconds.
- Press the Power button to start the computer and repeatedly press the F10 key to enter the BIOS setup menu.
- On the BIOS Setup screen, press F9 to select and load the BIOS Setup Default settings.
- Press F10 to Save and Exit.
- Use the arrow keys to select Yes, then press Enter when asked Exit Saving Changes?
- Follow the prompts to restart your computer. this should fix the issue.
Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance.

There were some updates done. However i dont think any of them were for the wireless/network driver. As far as the exclamation mark...there isnt one...not even the network bars. The only thing that shows up is the etherenet connection status...either cable plugged in or unplugged. I have noticed that the f12 (wireless) button is on and colored amber. Thought it was supposed to be blue. The f12 only enables the airplane mode or disables it, but is a constant amber.

Have you performed the above troubleshooting steps?
Also, try to uninstall the network adapter from the device manager.
- Use shortcut keys Win + X on Windows 10.
- Select Device Manager.
- Expand the entry. Right-click the network adapter and select Uninstall device.
- You may need to check the option Delete the driver software for this device, and then click the Uninstall button.
- Reboot the computer. this should work
Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance.
