Caps lock blinking one time. It will take up to 2 hours to get it to boot up. Have tried the battery reset and it doesn't even work. The battery does need replacing, but I hate to buy a new one if this can't be resolved. The power is on and it sounds like it's going to start up, but just the capslock blinks once so I know it's a processor issue. It uses the AMD.
I don't know what to do other than trash it. Please, anyone got any other tricks or solutions to save my phone?

Hey @lauracritt,

I would like to welcome you to the HP Support Community where you can ask questions, find solutions and get help with the Caps Lock LED blinking once on your Compaq Presario CQ56-115DX Notebook PC. You had also mentioned the battery needs to be replaced.

Did you happen to try turning the Notebook on while the battery is out and disconnected? If not, please try this step first and see if that helps.

Did you receive any error messages before this happened?

You could try to remove dust from the cooling areas in the Notebook. Too much dust can block airflow, causing sensitive components to overheat and fail.

The LED lights near the Caps Lock and Num Lock keys will blink if an error is detected during the startup process. The LEDs will blink a number of times in a sequence and then stop. It sounds like the number of blinks in the sequence you are experiencing is 1 blink. This means that theCPU is not functional.

You can try to reseat the CPU and check all of the connections first to see if maybe for some reason it is just not connecting properly.

You can follow the troubleshooting steps in the Computer Does Not Start documentation also.

If none of the steps above help, you have a couple options. You can take a look at the HP PartSurfer page to see if you can order a new CPU, or you can use the Warranty Checker to check the warranty status of the Notebook and then please use the following link to create yourself a case number:

Step 1. Open link: www.hp.com/contacthp/

Step 2. Enter Product number or select to auto detect
Step 3. Scroll down to "Still need help? Complete the form to select your contact options"
Step 4. Scroll down and click on HP contact options - click on Get phone number

Case number and phone number appear.
