HP Pavilion dv7 - 3111ea Notebook Entertainment PC
i5 Processor
4GB RAM
NVDIA Geforce 2GB VGA
OS : WIndows 7 64 - bit
I am having a BLACK SCREEN (NO SURE WHETHER IT REALLY TURNS ON OR DOESN'T) after I switch it on. The CAPS & NUM lock LEDs blink thrice with a three second window and automatically shutsdown and turns back on automatically. The LEDs blink with three seconds interval keeping the machine on constantly.
Having checked according to this link
http://h10010.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?lc=en&dlc=en&cc=us&docname=c01732674&product=1132551
Checked
AC ADAPTER - Works fine
BATTERY - Does not charge
It worked fine had no warnings about the battery (After a few days after the mentioned issue above I realised the battery stopped charging)
Performed Power Reset
RAM (Memmory modules) - Replaced New One (4GB)
According to the LED blinking sequence it refers to Memmory module errors. Reseating the memmory modules (2GB + 2GB) did not seem to work hence I replaced it with a new (4GB).
I hope this has nothing to do with the battery. This did not solve the problem.
Appreciated if anyone could help. Thanks in Advance

Hi,
Unfortunately the 'blink' codes aren't always an accurate indication of the actual fault, so this may be a hardware failure of another component on the Motherboard.
Try the following.
Shut down the notebook, unplug the AC Adapter and remove the battery. Follow the procedure starting on Page 52 of your Maintenance & Service Guide to remove the RTC battery.
Hold down the power button for 30 seconds and then leave the notebook for 15 minutes.
Swap your 4Gb memory module into the other available slot. Re-insert the RTC battery, replace the cover, plug in the AC Adapter ( leave the main battery out for now ) and try starting the notebook.
Any change?

Hi,
You're welcome and good to hear it's working
Regarding the battery issue, try the following and let me know
First of all, shut down the notebook, unplug the AC Adapter, remove the battery, and then hold down the Power button for 30 seconds.
Now, plug in the AC Adapter without the battery inserted, start the notebook, open windows Control Panel, open Device Manager, expand the entry for Batteries, right click on and the Microsoft ACPI Compliant Control Method Battery and select Uninstall - do not uninstall anything else here. When the uninstall is complete, shut the notebook down, unplug the AC Adapter, re-insert the battery, plu in the AC Adapter and then start the notebook. Windows will automatically reinstall the driver - see if this has helped the issue at all.
If the problem is still there, download and run the stand-alone battery test utility available on the page below and see if this reports any problems with your battery.

I have a similar blinking LEDs and Black screen issue with my HP Pvillion dv7-6106so Entertainment Notebook PC. Except there are CapsLock LED blinking with five times in periods. There are also both power lights, Wireless light, touchpad and HP logo lights on. What is the problem?
I appreciate if anyone could help. Thanks in advance!

Hi, I am actually experiencing that exact same issue with my computer down to the blinking LEDS. I found this so I tried it, but sadly it did not work for my laptop. I have the exact same laptop as the person who originally posted.
What else could be wrong? what else could i try?
thank you for your time.

Hello elizzabeth,
Did you try everything in the link that was posted above? What were the results from the many things it suggests to do? What was the blink code?
Thanks,

The link didn't work, or you performing the steps, didn't fix it?
