Thanks for the info and it is so amazing that HP has yet to say this is an issue. I was on the phone with support in March for 3.5 hours trying to get this camera to work. Install, uninstall, directions etc and nothing worked. I read your post, open the screen, and follow you instructions and it works! The problem was I didnt see the HP TrueVision until I followed your post. Shame on HP for doing a half job! No wonder they are laying off and closing shop, such shady work! We pay lots of money for the D7's and EVERYTHING should work!

Ok this is stupid but I reattached the loose wire on my DV7 which I bought 4 months ago but the Camera is still not showing as it exsists. I am at a complete lost I even tried to install the drivers manually but with no luck. Any help would be awesome.

Hey all,

I have a Pavilion dv7 - the 17.3" with beatsaudio (dont know if that helps)..

Along with everyone else I am also having this problem, I have the dv7 bought in about April 2012 so i presume its the newest, I couldn't say if not!

To be honest I am absolutely rubbish with computers so I have no idea what the hell I am doing.

This is it,

On Skype one day and the wecam just turned off, there is no light to indicate it is turned on. Now i dont know if has just been turned off and I am such an idiot that I cannot find how to turn it back on as my old laptop had an on/off button on the keyboard, this doesnt. 😞 I really dont know.

Heres what i have so far, like most I have Youcam, now i have looked on the "Device Manager" and found the "CyberLink WebCam Virtual Driver" (no idea if this is the right one) this says "This device is working properly" so as I have read I doesnt sound like it could be the short wire as the Device Manager is still picking it up.

Model: dv7-6co1ea

Any help in 'simple terms' for my rubbish knowledge would be helpful and i will be extremely greatfull!

Thank you,

Danny.

I have a bunch of experience with laptops, and I hate replacing LCD's, or taking them  apart if avvoidable,  I have a dv7-6135dx, and THE MICROPHONE WORKS!!

So, what do you guys think, since my Mic works, could the camera possibly be unconnected since more than likely the mic and cam are on the same board, thus, in my experience, both will fail if the cable is detached.

Does anyone know if the 6135dx has the same setup I usually see where the mic/cam are attached together?

I just bought it, and have no webcam, but microphone works great.  What a bunch of crap, HP has really bottomed out, this entire thing is MADE IN CHINA!!!!  I wonder how many American's they laid off to make that happen, no wonder it's broken, HP FIRED ALL QC STAFF!!!  Check it out, they have no more Quality Control IN USA.

Hello,

My name is Tom I'm a big computer freak. I've never came across issues of camera not working. I bought the hp pavilion dv7 2670gm around 8 months ago.

The webcam worked then no problem with skype and youcam until recently after i had to update both of them.

So i think since youcam is with hp "it s a scam to get money to upgrade

This **bleep** just worked yesterday and today boom

Nope does not want to work.

You try to follow diagnosing step to activate cam in youcam and wow you cant click the **bleep**ing configure button.

I'm not going to go through all these **bleep** link either.

So **bleep**ing hp i never had a problem to know.

So fix it or you are out of a customer to Toshiba.

I know alot about computers but sometimes I am lost too.
Don't Feel bad.

I opened the bevel and pushed the cable back on and the webcam and microphone worked.

Wonderful.

The problem is the **bleep** thing keeps coming away. I am getting tired of reconencting it.

Provided I leave the laptop on my desk and do not move it the cable stays connected. But the whoel purpose of owning a laptop is for mobility. if I didn't need it to be mobile i would have purchased a desk top PC.

So the question now is how do I stop the cable from becoming disconnected evrytime I travel with the laptop? I am considering glueing it in place with a very small dollop of hot glue next time I reconnect it and prove it is working. Can anyone see this solution causing a problem? Has anyone discovered an alternative to this idea?

Cheers

My web cam stopped working also in the same way described in all the posts. Below is a VERY very crude arrow pointing to the plug that comes loose that causes the camera to not work or be recognized by the computer. Its located just to the right of the camera and behind the screen bezel.  If you take a small screwdriver or your finger and push upward on the white plug it should solve the problem. Be very careful you dont damage the wires leading to the plug. Follow the instructions listed on the link provided in the previous post to remove the screen bezel carefully. It took me approx. 10 minutes to fix my web camera. It was actually much easier than I anticipated. Just take your time removing the screen bezel so you don't break it.
