I am having this problem and cannot figure out how to stop it. HP Pavilion Dv6 6c14nr Notebook. Windows 7 IE 8 . It does it in and out of safety mode. I tried every virus checker I can think of and it still does it. Microsoft "Fix-its" . Reinstalled the browsers--still does it. System restore--no luck. System Factory Default...no luck. Reformat computer and reinstall from recovery disk...no luck. The computer is only a year old--too young to replace it. By the way--it does it on any and all browsers. Any help is much appreciated.
I saw this problem before on here but I did not see it resolved--I did try all suggestions for it listed. No luck.

I installed KeyTweak, found the WWW button, selected it, set it to disabled, rebooted. And guess what.
No more problem.
Not sure about the person who said this did not work, possibly thye used a different program OR didn't disable the key OR did the WRONG key.
I honestly had no idea that this key existed. If I had it would have been the first thing I tried. I was thinking it was F1 or some other combination of functions keys and **bleep**.
And I actually ordered a new keyboard and replaced it. That's how far I went.
When these laptops (I have two) are EOL for me, which is the next year I'm sure, I am NEVER buying an HP product again. No way. Everything on this laptop is backwards. And support is lacking. We basically had to figure this out ourselves.

Hello Batron,
The browser continues to open multiple windows, is that correct? I will try to help you.
The recovery disks that you used, did you create them from the system or did you order them directly from HP?
Please respond back at your earliest convenience.
Thanks

Thank you so much for answering me. Yes the windows keep opening. I have IE disabled but as soon as I enable it-it reopens all the windows. The disks are the ones that came with the computer when I purchased it. There were two recovery disks. I tried both and still get the windows.

Batron,
I want you to run a couple tests just to make sure your hardware is responding correctly.
- Shut the computer down
- When you turn the computer back on tap the F10 immediately to access the BIOS menu
- Once there highlight the diagnostic option at the top
- Run all tests it shows available. Note the tests may take some time so be sure to have the AC adapter plugged in.
Please respond back with the tests results.

I ran the tests and they all passed. I ran Battery, Memory, Hard Disk, Tuneup, start up and run-in. The run in ran for over a day but I am guessing it just kept rerunning--said 118 iterations until I canceled it. In the error log is said the results are "passed".

Batron,
Thank you for that information.
Now you mentioned the recovery disks came with the computer when you bought it, did you buy it directly from HP or a local store? Trying to determine if the discs were factory made or if the disks were made from a copy off of the actual system.
Please respond back at your earliest convenience.
Thanks

I bought the laptop through Tiger Direct. One of the disks says "Factory Restore (with User Backup)" . On the Disk is says "For distribution only with a new Si PC" portions @ 2009 Microsoft Corp. The other one says on the disk package "Windows 7 Restore Disc" on the disk it says "Windows 7 Home Premium SP 1" "for distribution only with a New Si PC" W-7-HPx64-SP1 v.1.1. www.supportforyourpc.com portions@2011 Microsoft Corp.
Thank you again for responding.

Hey Batron,
In the mean time while doing the other things can you download and run HitmanPro (from SurfRight):
http://www.surfright.nl/en/home/
and ESET Online Scanner (from ESET) :
http://www.eset.com/us/online-scanner/
Do you run current and up-to-date version of antivirus software ?
Could you describe when IE (or the other browser) constantly opens, what does it show:
some bogus web page, some pop-ups like ads, or just typical browser page with home page ?
Can you make a photo of it and show it (post it) ?
