Thanks Paul  I tried your suggestion and receive the following answer: the best driver is already installed.  Is there somewhere else I can try to install the driver?

One other bit of information, my device manager indicates that my computer has the same touchpad as your computer has.

You're very welcome.

Sorry, that didn't work for you.

Is there a problem you're having with the touchpad not working?

If your notebook's device manager shows the Synaptics SMBus Clickpad device installed and working properly, there should be no need to update the driver.

The problem is that when I go to settings: Devices:  Touchpad.  I want to disable the touchpad when I use a Mouse.  There are no what to disable the touchpad.  I also checked with the Mouse and there are no choices either.  I was on line with Microsoft and they couldn't correct this situation.  I also went to hp support and Synaptics but couldn't find anything to correct this. I really appreciate your assistance.  Again thanks, Bruce

In my PC, there is a separate Synaptics touchpad program.

I open that program, and the screen that show up allows me to disable the touchpad.

Your notebook doesn't have a program/option like that?

Unfortunately it doesn't. Thanks Bruce

Hi, Bruce:

Unfortunately, I don't have any other ideas you can try.

The driver that won't manually install in your notebook is the same driver that I have installed in mine if you look at my second screenshot and it has that program.

I don't know why the driver didn't install.

What version of the driver does your notebook have installed now?

Where would I find that information?

HP Recommended

Reboot and install provided driver again.
