Hi, would you be able to help me locate a USB 3.0 Win 7 64 driver for the Envy 17-j053ea model, please?

I installled Win 7 but then found out that there are no drivers on HP website for this model and Win 7 (only Win8). Managed to find and install all other drivers but not USB controller, so none of the USB ports are working.

The device hardware ID is:

VEN_8086&DEV_8C31&SUBSYS_1966103C&REV04

which should be an Intel USB 3.0 controller but tried various drivers from Intel without much luck. Please help.

Hi,

I have just bought this laptop and have gone down the same route as you. I have installed windwos 7 Pro but I'm struggling to find all of the drivers that I need. Could you point me in the direction of the drivers that you found please?

Many thanks,

Chad.

Hi,

Thank you so much for the USB driver but I'm having trouble finding most of them. I have also downgraded from Windows 8 to 7 Ultimate 64-bit on the same laptop (17-j053ea) with product number: E7A75EA. I'd really appreciate if you could help me find the necessary drivers to get this to function properly. I was furious that HP didn't provide them on the support page as not everyone likes Windows 8 but this thread has given me hope.
A quick reply would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Jaspinder

Hi JaZpInDeR,

Welcome to the HP Forums!

To better explain why HP does not provide drivers for Windows 7 on your notebook, I have included the document 'What if I Don't See My Operating System?'.

Try downloading and installing this patch from Intel. 'USB 3.0 Driver: Intel® USB 3.0 eXtensible Host Controller Driver for Intel® 7 Series/C216 Chipset Fa...'.

Now if the above patch fails to resolve the issue, I would need to know the hardware IDs. I have included the document 'How to Find Hardware ID'. Please post back with the information, and the drivers might be able to be found.

Thank you.

Hey Dallascowboys1,

So I put windows 7 on my aunts PC, took it apart to fix a fan, and suddenly the driver it had (I found a generic controller) wasn't working.  Thanks a lot for the link.  I've been trying to fix this thing for a while and just couldn't find the right driver for it.
