When trying to factory reset my laptop, I got an error during the resetc process at 52%. Now my laptop will not boot. When using F11 I get a recovery error that states PC needs repaired. I do not have installation media, and only thing I can access from recovery screen is UEFI firmware settings

Hello, @Mag_42 - Hope you are well 🙂

Welcome to the HP Forum! This is a wonderful location to converse with the community, get assistance and find tips.

I see that you are having trouble while booting your HP PC. I will certainly try and help you fix this issue 🙂

To assist you better, could you please reply with the product number of your Pc and the operating system.

Alternatively, I would suggest performing a system recovery to try and reinstall the OS on your PC. This option reformats the system drive (usually C:), reinstalls the original operating system, and reinstalls all the original hardware drivers and software.

Go to http://hp.care/2dW3S5w and follow the steps under “Recovery when Windows 10 does not start correctly” since you are unable to boot properly.

Please let me know if this resolves the issue, or if you require further assistance!

Good luck 🙂

Hello, @mag_42

Appreciate your efforts 🙂

Let's try to run the hard drive test and a system test to check any hardware failure with your machine. Follow the steps below:

  1. Hold the power button for at least five seconds to turn off the computer.
  2. Turn on the computer and immediately press the F2 key repeatedly, about once every second.
  3. The HP PC Hardware Diagnostics (UEFI) main menu is displayed.
  4. In the main menu, click component test.
  5. Then click on hard drive test.
  6. Select the Quick Test to perform a quick check of the hardware.
  7. Select the Extensive Test to perform a full check of the hardware. This test might take 2 or more hours to complete.

Please reply with the test results. I'll watch for your reply!

Cheers 🙂

Hard drive test is not an option under component tests.
Processor
Memory
Storage
AC adapter
Audio
Battery
Keyboard
Mouse
Network
System board
Touch screen
Usb port
Video
Wireless module
Main menu.

There is separately a system tests option from the main screen

Hello, @mag_42

Thanks for the update!

You need to update the UEFI to run this test. since you cannot update the PC, I would recommend performing the test using the USB flash drive.

Go to http://hp.care/2bjZGry and follow the steps under " Testing from an external USB device (UEFI)".

Also, perform the "Extensive system test" as well to check for any hardware failures.

Thanks, I look forward to hearing back from you!

Good luck 🙂
