15-AY503TX
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hi,

I purchased a brand new HP 15-AY503TX Laptop a week ago. As It was Free DOS, I had to install the Windows 10 64 bit OS and Device Drivers on my own. I downloaded all the Device Drivers from this HP Website

HP 15-AY503TX Windows 10 Drivers

I experienced problem installing the Intel HD Graphics Driver, it closes with the exception saying the "Hardware doen't meet the minimum Requirments". Then I installed the AMD/intel Switchable graphics, it installed successfully.

Now After Restarting, I right click and saw AMD Settings. Intel Graphics settings are missing. When I try to open the AMD Settings, It said, AMD Drivers are missing or not working properly (Later I understood that the AMD Settings wont work unless the Intel HD Graphics Driver was installed).

What I did is, I installed the Windows 7 Intel HD Graphics Driver. Then updated the Drivers with Windows Update. After the Windows Update My Intel HD Graphics Driver was successfully installed and working. I can open the AMD Settings also.

Now, the Laptop started to Freeze (Balck Screen with Backlight On and no response to the Inputs from Keyboard or Mouse) randomly. when using Google chrome, when scanning virus,  or any activity other than gaming.

I guess this is problem with the Graphics Driver. But my question is, Why HP Provided a Driver which says that the Computer doesn't meet the minimum system Requirements?. Do I miss any Hardware in my Laptop?.

And One Work around to this problem I found is, changing the Refresh rate to 40Hz from 60Hz. But at 40 Hz also I experience the same freezing issue but less frequent than running at 60 Hz.

Please somebody help me out. I guess there is no problem with my Hardware.

I baught this Laptop for Android Development. The Emulators wont work without the Proper graphics Drivers. When It freezes all my Coding is lost. Its really frustating me. Its a good Laptop with this small Issue. Please Give me a Permanent solution.

Hi,

I have tried the AMD Drivers you have mentioned above. Nothing found helpful.

I was thinking the actual problem is not the AMD Driver itself. it may be a reason. but Windows 10 OS also took part in this issue.

I went to HP Service center, they asked me to clean install the OS and come. But, I wanted the problem to be fixed without Clean installation as I had many softwares.

I have downloaded the latest, Windows 10 Pro OS from Microsoft website. Then did a complete clean installation. Now i didnt download any Drivers from HP Website.

I trusted Windows Driver update, the Latest AMD and intel graphics were installed automatically after sometime. Now the problem appears to be solved permanently.

I read somewhere that, Windows anniversary update will result in corruption of some dll files. Like QtCore5.dll, not sure of the names though. which is used by AMD Radeon graphics.

So, instead of installing a older OS, i tried installing the latest windows 10 OS with Anniversary update packages. This solved my problems completely.

Thank you All..

Welcome to the HP Forums,
I hope you're well 🙂

As I understand the laptop has slow, lagging and freezing at times,
Don't worry as I have a few steps to identify and resolve the issue:

Common causes of slow system performance:

  • Not enough free disk space or disk errors.
  • Applications that require a lot of system resources.
  • Too many tasks running at the same time.
  • Nonessential graphic features.
  • Not enough memory.
  • Overheating due to intensive graphic applications or dust in vents.
  • Running multiple instances of anti-virus software.

Hi,

Thank you very much for your Response.

But I was very specific in my Question. It doesnt freeze when I do Gaming or Running the Android Emulator.

The AMD Graphics and Intel HD Graphics Seems to be working fine.

But during Normal Usage like Watching Youtube Videos in Google Chrome. Checking Mails in Outlook. Watching Videos in VLC Player, Or even when the Computer is kept idle. The Laptop Freeze randomly.

I have stressed the GPU a lot, that time also it didnt freeze the Laptop. Which means the issue is not because of Over Heating/Memory Usage.

The Laptop freezes sometimes like when i keep the PC idle for few seconds, when i touch the mouce pad.

Sometimes any Notification appears from Skype or any other Application.

This is completely unpredictable.

I guess the problem is in the Graphics driver which HP Provided.

I have installed the Same Graphics Driver mentioned in the HP Website.

HP Driver is not able to work with Windows 10 it seems.

I cannot blame HP Blindly. But please confirm that it is a Graphics card hardware related issue or the Driver software not written to utilize the hardware properly?.

Please answer my Question. it will be helpful for me to decide whether to take Laptop to Service center or not.

Thanks in Advance.

@Badhusha

Thank you for replying with the details,

If you are certain and have narrowed it down to either a graphics card or a graphics driver issue,

And you want to know which of this is causing the computer to freeze at times,

It's best you boot into the BIOS screen and leave the computer under observation for at least 5-6hrs and check if it freezes in there as that would confirm whether it's a hardware or a software issue,

Alternatively, you could also perform a hardware test using the hardware diagnostics tool, click here for details.

Keep me posted for further assistance, 🙂

Hi @Riddle_Decipher,

I have booted into BIOS setup and did Both Memory Test and Hardware Test. Both got Passed without any issues. This freezing issue is only observed after logging into the Windows. So this issue is relaed to windows 10.

Can you give me some knowledge about how HP installs the device drivers for the same laptop coming with Windows OS.

I have read so many articles related to windows update causes freezing issues. I turned off windows update and manually installed the HP provided Drivers. But still the issue exists.

Kindly share some knowledge on how hp does the driver installation. Is the same driver provided in the website used?.

Hello @Riddle,

I found that the problem was because of the Switchable AMD Graphics Driver. I disabled the AMD Graphics Driver in Device manager, then I didnt Experience any freezing issue.

Also...

Today I went to the Same HP Driver Download Site, and very surprised to see the Additional Drivers added under the Graphics and Chipset Categories. The Drivers were specifically programmed for Windows 10 version 1607.  I have downloaded and installed the latest drivers provided for this version.

(Now the AMD Graphics is Enabled automatically after Driver installation)

After Restarting my Laptop I experienced the same issue. I read somewhere that Drivers wont be completely removed.

So I installed DDU From Guru3 Website, it helped me to Uninstall all the AMD and Intel Drivers completely in Safe mode.

After the Complete graphics related drivers uninstall, again I booted into safe mode. and installed the Intel HD Graphics provided in HP Website. Then Extracted the AMD/intel Switchable Graphics Driver (it cannot be installed in safe mode it seems).

Restarted and booted to Normal Mode, again went to AMD Driver extracted folder, and installed AMD Drivers. Finally unchecked the checkbox to Update AMD Drivers Automatically. Then disabled the Automatic Driver update feature in windows 10.

Now the Laptop seems to be working fine at 60Hz Refresh rate. Im happy for now.

But Not sure about this. Have to wait for few days. After complete Testing of the Laptop i can confirm it.

Thanks for your help.

One day the Drivers worked well. Like a Nightmare, It Again started to show Black screen freezing issue.

I guess that the problem was with the AMD Hardware/Drivers.

Left with No Solution. Taking my Laptop to the HP Service center.

Thank you,

Hi@Badhusha,

I thank you for the reply.

The Video card is an AMD Radeon™ R5 M430 Graphics (2 GB DDR3 dedicated) and since the drivers from HP site didn’t work,

I request you try the links below and install the software in order to check if that fixes the issue.

First install: https://www2.ati.com/drivers/beta/non-whql-win10-64bit-radeon-software-crimson-16.10.2-oct19.exe

Second install: https://www2.ati.com/drivers/whql-win10-64bit-radeon-software-crimson-16.9.2-sep29.exe

Let me know for more.

Happy posting.
