I bought 2 of these laptops for my daughters and they say there are 2 slots for memory.  When I pop the cover off the back I only see the one slot that is currently occupied.  For the life of me I cannot find the empty slot.  Does anyone have a schematic to show where this elusive 2nd slot is?  I'm not thinking I need to take the entire back cover off.

Thanks

Dave

Hi, Dave:

Below is the link to the service manual for the PC:

http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c03550054.pdf

When I look at the picture in chapter 3 on page 14, I see what looks to be two memory modules superimposed upon one another, which may be why it is hard to see the second slot.

Chapter 4 provides the R & R procedures for the memory modules.

Thanks.  HP is very misleading on this as some documentation says 1 slot some says 2.  Tech support is now saying this machine only has 1 slot so I think I have stopped looking for the elusive second slot.  It is very weird that they show 2 memory modules in the picture you reference.

Thanks

You're very welcome.

Seems odd that HP would cripple a nice machine by only allowing 4 GB of memory-especially with a 64 bit OS!

But the specs page does list only one 4 GB chip.  Hmmm...

How come this issue is listed as solved and you have the solution? NOT

I presume whatever I responded to the original author of this thread, answered his question.

He marked the post as solved, not me.

What do you want me to do, add  a second memory slot to the motherboard for you?

You have been a member of this forum for over 3 years, and this is the first question you decide to post?

C'mon!

It is marked as resolved since this very nice person helped backup what I was finding and confirmed there is only 1 slot.  HP is very confusing in all of the documentation that they have for this model but he is correct even though I would appreciate it if he could add an additional memory slot to the motherboard.

Slot, you may want to look at the posts on the following site. It seems that Wally's did the 1 slot trick on the compaq presario cq58-bf9wm they sold for $179.99. It appeares that no one who bought one of those machines got 2 RAM slots either. Then when walmart and HP were comfrunted about it, they first said the machines were built by someone other than HP and they put the wrong motherboard in the machines. After they figured out it was a nation wide error, they changed the spec page to read 1 slot. I think something smells fishy and it isn't the outhouse door on a tuna trawler.

YES!

The HP notebook models  Compaq CQ58-bf9WM, HP 2000-bf60CA, and HP 2000-bf69WM sold at Wal-Mart had incorrect specifications listed on HP.com and walmart.com.

The specifications documents have been corrected. There is no issue with the PCs, and they were built as designed.

These notebooks contain a single memory slot.

The products are fully covered by standard HP warranty services.

We apologize for this error and any inconvenience it may have caused.

I worked for HP.
