I have the same problem my HP Pavilion G62 shuts off after 2-5 seconds too. Mine is you can't even access the BIOS, did the RAM and Hard Drive re-seat, replaced new thermal compound, but still no luck. My last option is to reheat all the soldered component around the GPU and the GPU itself, any update guys on your problem?

GeekTech,

You mentioned you have the exact same problem.

Are your symptoms exactly the same?

Do you get any keys on the keyboard blinking? If so, what lights are blinking and how many times in one interval? Intervals are noted with a long pause.

What is the full model of your notebook?

Cloud_Strider,

mine is HP Pavilion 62-220CA..

When i press the power button it respond with power and WiFi lights up, hears fan and HD spinning, then it shuts off after the HP logo appears.

I can't even access the BIOS tried hitting ESC but still shuts off after a couple of seconds..

Did all the possible solution, still no luck..

Do you have same problem as mine?

Let's make sure the hard drive is not the root cause. The hard drive does not always cause the symptoms you describe, but I have seen rare cases where it turned out to be the hard drive.

Review page 47 of the maintenance and service guide to remove the hard drive.

Once the hard drive is out, go ahead and connect it to the charger and try to get into BIOS.
If it goes into BIOS and does not power off, then it is safe to say it is the hard drive.

Actually i did that too, same as re-seating the RAM one at a time, slot after slot, removing the HD and optical drive and when i press the power button still it shuts off after 2-5 sec.
For so many attempt i did try your suggestion and still no luck, thank you anyways..
Now I am going to re-heat the soldered component around power supply and GPU section..

Hope this works..thank you Cloud_Strider

It does look like a genuine hardware issue at this point. Sorry.

You can try contacting HP support to find out how much it would cost to get it repaired officially and compare that to other repair options or purchasing a new unit. If it is the motherboard, which it sounds like it is, then it would be best to either repair it with HP or to get a new system. The reason I say this is that non-HP certified motherboards could cause a variety of issues down the road.

Thank you for assisting me, atleast you've share your ideas, no need to sorry..

Maybe that's the best way to do, contact HP support, but i doubt it they have the cheapest repair. I think i just repair it my self or buy a new laptop..

Again thank you..

I just had my g62 turn off mysteriously and then a series of attempt to get it restarted failed. Fans would occasionally turn Randomly power would go on for moment but no screen. As it turns out one of my two memory slots had failed - once I removed the RAM from the outside slot the machine started up again like nothing happened. It wasn't the RAM itself - it was the actual slot.

Just wanted to get that out there.
