Windows 8.1

Hello,

I purchased a 64bit:Windows 8.1 Pavilion 15 notebook a few months ago.

Product number:J5B65EA#ABU

The laptop is only a few months old, all of a sudden i cannot connect wirelessly to the internet, when i check the device manager there is no wifi adapter listed in the settings. I tried downloading different adapters from HP website using the product number but none have worked or show up on the device manager. the ultility managers say that all adapters are upto date and if you use the network connection help, it states to conect using a cable.

I am at a loss at what to do to fix it.

Thanks,

KJ

Hey @Kj1234 ,

Welcome to the HP Forums!

I understand you're experiencing issues with connectivity on your Pavilion 15 notebook, and the adapter is not listed in Device Manager.

A lot of the time when a device is not listed Windows doesn't have a driver for the hardware or the hardware has failed. The problem with this is, without the device listed in Device Manager it's hard to tell what driver to install.

Open up Device Manager and click View at the top and select Show hidden devices. Look for a field called Other devices. Expand it and see if ther's any Unknown devices. If there is, do the following:

  1. Right click the device
  2. Select Properties
  3. Go to the Details tab
  4. Change the drop down menu to Hardware Ids
  5. Provide me with the first ID in the list

Once I have this ID I should be able to find you the correct driver.

Thanks. I look forward to your reply! 🙂

I've the same problem with two HP Pavilion 15 laptops, product number: J5B65EA#ABU.  The wifi keeps dropping off, even though all other computers in the house work fine.

The wifi adapter is a Broadcom BCM43142 802.11 bgn Wi-Fi Adapter.

I've tried changing the power saving settings on the adapter and in general to Maximum Performance and have unchecked the option to Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power.

I've tried resetting the router (even though other devices other than the HP laptops are unaffected).  I've tried rebooting the laptops, disabling and re-enabling the wireless adapter, and have tried flushing the dns, renewing the IP, etc, all to no avail.

I need this fixing or I'm going to have to return both laptops.

@mmajor74 ,

Unfortunately your issue is not relevant to this thread. The OPs issue is a missing wireless adapter driver, whereas your issue is with wireless intermittency. Quite different.

I suggest reviewing the following guide, and let me know if it makes a difference in your wireless stability: Common fixes for wireless connectivity issues.

Thanks! 🙂

I also have a brand new HP Pavilion 15 (15-p164ca). For work purposes, I had to install Windows 8.1 pro. Now I can't see any wireless adapters listed, so I can't join our network or connect to the internet.  The machine came with 0 documentation as to which devices and drivers were included, so I don't know how to make it recognize the driver. This machine does come with a wireless adapter, doesn't it?

Hi,

My Notebook has been running fine until recently where I noticed I had not wireless connection and the f12 button toggled the flight mode but not the light which remained orange. Further investigation found that no wireless adapter was listed. When I viewed the hidden items, it listed a number of wifi adapters but were greyed-out and events showed them as removed in 2013! All help greatfully received.

Currently running Windows 8.

I understand that your notebook has been working fine until recently when you lost your wireless.

When you checked Device Manager for hidden devices a number of wireless adapters were listed but they were all greyed out and showed them as being removed in 2013.

In Device Manager if you scan for hardware changes does it find your network card?

Here is a  link to HP PCs - Troubleshooting Wireless Network and Internet (Windows 😎 as a guide. If you still have not had any success  I suggest you test the card for a hardware failure.  Here is a link to  HP Notebook PCs - Testing for Hardware Failures (Windows 10, 😎 to assist you with that process. Network should be listed under the component option.

Should you determine that the card has failed please contact HP support for service options.
