I have no idea why that happened, but go ahead and install the graphics driver, reboot the PC and see if the graphics adapters are then installed correctly and re-run the windows update utility.

I uninstalled the two graphics adapters and the drivers, rebooted and installed the SP63216 driver.

The "Standard VAG Graphics" has no "!" but is not labled as a Intel Adapter like it was with previous Intel driver install.

The other adapter  is now labled as AMD Radeon HD 8750M but has a "!" with:

"Windows has stopped this device because it has reported problems. (Code 43)"

Unfortunately, I don't know what the issue could be since now you have installed all variants of the driver and nothing is working.

The end result is you should be seeing the Intel and AMD graphics adapters installed with no ! marks.

The only other suggestion I can offer besides reinstalling W7 all over again and using the last graphics driver I posted is this...try to manually install each graphics driver.

Go to the device manager, click to expand the display adapters device category.

Click on what should be the Intel graphics adapter. Click on the driver tab.  Click on Update Driver.

Select the Browse my computer for driver software option and browse to the driver folder that was created when you ran the file.

That folder will be located in C:\SWSetup\sp63216.

Make sure the Include subfolders box is checked and see if the driver installs that way.

Then reboot the PC.

Then repeat the same steps with the AMD graphics adapter.

Interesting.  The computer is set to automatically install all Windows updates.  I have been rebooting a number of times since recovery.  Each time the number of remaining updates has demininshed because the previously failed updates have subsequently been successfully installed.  Current is 15 important and 9 optional.  Apparently it woud seem that the order of install may have impact on success ie Windows may not be able to automatically set up the proper sequence required.  I will continue to reboot to complete updates.

Yes, that has happened to me as well.

And yes, there is a recommended order to install some of the hardware drivers.

Normally, one installs the Intel chipset installation utility first and reboot.

Second is the graphics, then reboot.

Third is the audio, then reboot.

Fourth is the ethernet.

Fifth is the wireless.

Then you can install whatever drivers that remain in any order you want.

Now, regarding the graphics again, I have explored the file contents of the AMD graphics drivers listed and none of them contain the drivers for the Intel graphics adapter (yet the file description on the last one I gave you indicates that: For notebooks with switchable graphics modes, this package includes drivers for both graphics processing units (GPUs).

So that information is incorrect.

You need to install the Intel graphics driver first, reboot and then install the amd graphics driver.

There was a revision to the original amd graphics driver, so see if this one works instead.

RE:

That folder will be located in C:\SWSetup\sp63216.

These were displayed for the there different drivers during their  install:

1st  C:\SWSetup\sp71151

2nd C:\SWSetup\sp72887

uninstalled above drivers and installed the following

3rd C:\SWSetup\sp63216

Which should i use for the Intel and which for the AMD?

If I can get the AMD to install but not the Intel  will the monitour still work properly  since in my laymans mind that is the more capable graphics card or would the AMD card require the Intel driver as well?

Seperately the last attempt (as described previously) to install remaining few uninstalled Windows updates displaded the following errors and would not complete boot up.  Also the Windows did not go into recovery mode this time.

First two error windows

"ie unit.exe system error

THE PROGRAM CAN NOT START BECAUSE  IEADVPACK.DLL  IS MISSING FROM YOUR COMPUTER.  TRY REINSTALLING THE PROGRAM TO FIX THE PROBLEM."

"personalized settings

ENABLE TLS1.1 & 1.2"

i clicked OK on the first erro message and the next error message poped up

"btvstack.exe system error

THE PROGRAM CAN NOT START  BECAUSE  API-MS-WIN-DOWNLEVEL-OLE32-L1-1-0.DLL  IS MISSING FROM YOUR COMPUTER.  TRY REINSTALLING THE PROGRAM TO FIX THE PROBLEM."

i click OK but this last error keeps coming up.  Reboot the same response.

Any suggestions on how to fix other than fresh install of WINDOWS.

Hi:

You need to have both graphics adapters properly installed in order for either one of them to work right.

As for the windows update issues, unfortunately, I have no experience troubleshooting those.

HP Recommended

I had not read your last post when I typed the last inquiry asking what graphics diver to use which you have answered.

HP Recommended

PS on the current Windows failure to boot it booted to the point that the windows welcome screen is diaplayed asking for password.

HP Recommended

OK got your post on your ability to help on start up repair.  I was able to reboot in safe mode and again initiate Windows recovery/repair which worked and booted normally.  I will see what updates are left which probablke contain the problem.

I will resume the Graphics driver install work.
