HP - Spectre x360
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I have problems with my Spectre x360.
the power adapter works well, I've tried it, but it's as if there were, that is not charging the battery and turns off.
It looks like a problem with the internal power adapter

With the notebook turned off and the power adapter conected, does the led stay amber in color?

Have you tried charging it overnight while it is turned off?

I will ask to have your issue escalated. This is a warranty repair issue.

Done!  You should be receiving a response and PM from an HP representative. Please be patient since it is Saturday.

To All,

If you are having this problem, chances are, the problem is the power connector broke inside the laptop. The power connector is poorly designed.  It's only being held by 1 screw on one side to hold it.  As such, when you insert the power plug in and out, the whole unit moves until it breaks the wires.

Here's the part you'll need.  P/N: 801513-001

You can get one from eBay.

HP needs to fire the designer of this laptop.  It's so sad to see a $1,300 laptop inoperable because of poor design.  How much does it cost HP to fix these under warranty?  How much is the cost to the consumers if out of warranty?  Goodwill cost?  HP's reputation for having poor quality laptops?  A LOT!  It could have been designed much better without additional cost.

My Spectre x360 stopped charging today. Replaced the charging chord and no luck. This laptop is less than 2 years old. I've read some of the previously posts on this but cannot determine what I neeed to do to get this fixed. Any help is much appreciated.

The DC power connector which the power adapter connects to is what all notebook manufacturers, with the exception of Apple, were stuck with until the end of 2015. Apple had a patent on the thunderbolt magnetic power connector it has been using for years.

Now with the advent of the USB 3.0 type-c connectors, smaller, modern notebooks like the current x360 models use it to provide power to charge the main battery.

The problem with the DC power connnector was one that extended to all manufacturers. HP did not design it. It was the current technology that all laptops had back then.

@OVRider

The issue with yours, based on the replacement of the DC power plug,  could be the charge\power distribution circuit on the motherboard or the main battery. Does the LED even light up when you plug in the power connector?

BJameson, have you tried replacing this part?

My Spectre stopped working today. LED light next to power port is dead (not showing amber or white). The laptop won't charge.
