Hi Alleyes

it's true that HP dosn't provide drivers and support for windows XP on the consumer notebook but for some of the peripherals you may find the drivers.

A good way to discover which driver you need it to know the "hardware ID" of the peripherals missing the driver.

Here a list of them, for dv4, dv5 and dv7 Intel based.

1) chipset intel

PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_2930&SUBSYS_30F7103C&REV_03\3&B1B FB68&0&FB
ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp39001-39500/sp39316.exe

2) network controller  (Wireless INTEL)
PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_4237&SUBSYS_12118086&REV_00\4&2A1 7DF6C&0&00E2
ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp40001-40500/sp40120.exe

3) controller Ethernet Realtek 8168
PCI\VEN_10EC&DEV_8168&SUBSYS_30F7103C&REV_02\4&22A B4E2B&0&00E3
ftp://202.65.194.212/cn/nic/PCIE_Install_5686(installshield%2012_1.16)_0219.zi p
PCIE_Install_5686(installshield 12_1.16)_0219.zip

4a) driver Nvidia 178.24 , version 6.14.11.7824

testated with
PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_06E8 Nvidia geForce 9200 GE
PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_0427 Nvidia GeForce 8400 GS ,
PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_0425 Nvidia GeForce 8600 GS
download from Nvidia link: http://it.download.nvidia.com/Windows/178.24/178.24_geforce_winxp_32bit_international_whql.exe
then this file
nv4_disp.inf from http://www.filecloud.com/files/category.php?user_category_id=283210
execute 178.24_geforce_winxp_32bit_international_whql.exe, it creates the folder C:\NVIDIA\Win2k\178.24\IS
You will get an installation error.

Copy the file nv4_disp.inf taken from filecloud to folder C:\NVIDIA\Win2k\178.24\IS ,

then go to C:\NVIDIA\Win2k\178.24\IS and execute setup.exe

hi answertome,
how to start installation of XP?

HP Recommended

Hi Alleyes

first you must have a regular XP Professional o Home license. Vista home doesn't inlcude the right to downgrade to XP.

When you have your XP CD, if you try to install youi will have a ble screen error with code : STOP ERROR 0xX0000007B. This because the XP CD from Microsoft is missing the AHCI driver for the SATA disk controller.

You must add the AHCI driver to the XP cd using the software nlite.

steps you have to do are:

1) downlaod and install Nlite from nliteos.com web site

2) downlaod the AHCI driver from HP  ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp39501-40000/sp39786.exe

3) if you don't know how to use nlite, just watch the short clip you can find here http://www.filecloud.com/files/category.php?user_category_id=283210

you can see 2 clips:

1) aggiungere driver SATA per controller ICH9 (intel Montevina).avi    --> This shows how to add the AHCI driver only (some words in Italian)

2) integrareSP3_e_SATA_AHCI_finale_con_audio_e_logo2.avi --> This shows how to add the SP3 and the AHCI driver (audio in Italian but you can understand just seeing to video)

When you have your new CD with SATA/AHCI driver you will be able to install XP into your notebook

Ciao

HI alleys

I never heard that the content of teh disk can freeze a computer at boot

I don't know what you did during last days, you can try these steps

1) remove the battery , put it back and see what happens

2) if nothign change, try to remove the hard disk and check if the computer is able to boot from a CD if YES, reinstall the hard disk.

If the problem is the content of the hard disk, connect it to another computer and wipe the whole disk.
