Hey katzboom,
It isn't necessary to use the UEFI to update your BIOS. HP Support Assistant is designed to find the next available version out for any driver. That is why it is seeing F.24. If you were to use HP Support Assistant to go up to F.24, after installing it, within a few days it would probably prompt you to update to F.26 (if that is the latest version for your particular notebook).
I confirmed, for an HP 450, F.26 is the latest. It would be fine to go directly from F.03 to F.26 and skip F.24. You don't need to use UEFI for this. Simply go to this link for BIOS F.26 and click the Download button. When the install wizard begins, it may restart your computer on its own. Let it complete the installation. Don't press the power button or unplug the computer during the installation. When it powers back on by itself, it may ask you to click Apply or it may just notify you that the BIOS was flashed/updated. Once you are back to the Windows desktop, you can check your BIOS version in HP Support Assistant or by pressing FN + ESC on the keyboard.
Please let me know if you have any questions about this process. I'll keep an eye out for your reply 🙂

AxhunJaxun,
So, you mean having uefi would be redundant since I have S.A.? btw, how important is the uefi? (I'm sorry I still lack experience with this)
What exactly happens when I use S.A. to update my bios? will it update before startup or update within windows? because i have done some research on this and they say it is way more risky flashing the BIOS within windiws. I know the steps on how the BIOS is updated but I would like more assurance on this.
This is the product number for my laptop C0R40PA#UUF

The standard automated method to update your BIOS is using HPSA. The process is automated and updates using UEFI on the next boot after you select the update in HPSA.
The manual method to update your BIOS is to download the latest version from HP.com and run the update. The udpate will be applied just like in the HPSA method. The library of updates on HP.com is the same as the library of updates in HPSA.
Note that in some instances there will be a newer update on HP.com than currently published in HPSA. This is due to publishing schedule differences.

I see... anyway, I went ahead and downloaded the latest BIOS F.26 and my BIOS was updated successfully which is great. however, now one of the usb ports stopped working. what I mean is, my laptop has 3 user accounts and on my account, the usb ports work fine. on the guest account when I change user, one of the ports is not working. in fact on every startup, a different usb port stops working which is wierd. what do you think is the cause of this?
thanks for the information guys, I learn new stuff.

That is strange. It appears to be related to the operating system or driver.
Would you provide some more info:
1. Which HP model are you using?
2. What operating system? is it the same OS that was on the product when you purchased it?
Thanks

i'm using the hp 450 notebook pc.
windows 7 ultimate 64-bit. same os since i bought it.
when I first noticed it, the driver for one of the ports was missing, so I reinstalled the driver.. but still on the outher user accounts, a random usb port still does not work every start-up or user log-in.

what happened is I updated my BIOS from f.03 to F.26
update was successful but then a random usb port stopped working (cannot detect plugged device)
(usb port = device unknown in device manager)
so I reinstalled the driver and restarted th laptop and it works on my account but not on the other user accounts e.g. 'guest account'
I'll have to further check on this.

Hello!
After install ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp55001-55500/sp55493.exe (F.26 for ENVY 14-1XXX) and reboot:
"Both files are written to the Hewlett-Packard\BIOS\NEW folder on HP_TOOLS"
Yes it true but sill nothing happens - my bios has an older version, not new (f23 and not f26).
So
"The new version is backed up the CURRENT folder and the previous verison is backed up to the PREVIOUS folder. "
Not true, the files have not changed their places 8(
For some reason does not automatically update. What to do?
