Hp Delphi model no. D40 screen not turning on, wireless button blinking blue and orange

Like the title says. I was transferring files from one hard-drive to another, it was taking a few hours, so I left it to run overnight. When I checked in the morning, the laptop was on, but the screen was off and the wireless button was blinking alternately orange and blue. I tried the hard reset, removed the battery and power source, but to no avail. Please help, I have some important files on this laptop that haven't been backed up yet

Was the hard reset performed as noted in the steps below?

1.  Remove the power cord, battery, and any external devices.

2.  Hold the power button for 1 minute.

3.  Reinsert the battery or connect the charger.

Most notebooks have an external monitor port.  Do you get an image if you connect an external monitor to it and then turning it on?

Yes, the hard reset was done as you say, and no image shows up when plugged into an external monitor.

Is this your notebook?  You mentioned HP Delphi D40, but the product number returned a Probook 620 and I want to be sure I am looking at the right system.  If it is not a 620, please let me know.

Since the external display did not work, this indicates to me that it is not the LCD panel but an issue somewhere between the motherboard and the video card.  This particular notebook appears to be using an Intel 4500 GMA card which is an integrated card.  This means that it most likely shares the system memory with the video card.  The memory could potentially be at fault.

Try a hard reset, but with the addition of removing and reseating the RAM.  The RAM removal steps can be found on page 64 of the service and maintenance guide should you need it.

I removed the ram, reseated it in the same slot with no change. I then removed the ram again, and reseated it within the auxiliary slot above the primary slot. The result, the screen is still non functional, but the wireless button light now remains a constant amber, which leads me to believe that the problem is indeed with the ram. I'm currently away from a good computer repair centre, but at least now I'll have some idea as to where the problem is. Thanks.

Before purchasing new RAM modules, do you have access to an extra stick of RAM to test with? 

One of the following should be sufficient for testing purposes.

4-GB (PC3-10600, 1333-MHz, DDR3)

2-GB (PC3-10600, 1333-MHz, DDR3)

1-GB (PC3-10600, 1333-MHz, DDR3)

If you don't have access to any, is there a notebook you could borrow the RAM from temporarily?  Over the recent years, pc3-10600 memory has been fairly common.  If it has only one stick of RAM, then it most likely is the RAM as it's very unlikely that both RAM slots have gone out, but it could still be the motherboard or the video card that is built-in on the motherboard.  If it's not the RAM, then it will be the motherboard but RAM is much cheaper.  However, using a stick of RAM that is known to work in another notebook (and is compatible with this one) would help confirm where the issue is.  If a different stick of RAM works, then it is the RAM.  If a different stick of RAM does not work, then it is the motherboard.
