i am experiencing this problem since last week,

i have Pavilion G6 2301ax laptop model.

Laptop bttery works good and is just a month old, battery cycles are near 70/300,

battery charges fully,

no other error ever,

laptop just shuts off suddenly after battery goes down to 38%,

no restart again works,

for next start it requires to be plugged in,

after plugged in it starts charging from 33-38%,

i have checked Power optimization options in power profile. but no luck.

for 100 to 38% battery works just fine.

so what is problem and any solution??

Did you try hard reset?

Do a hard reset:
Performing a hard or forced reset may fix the following conditions:

Windows stops responding
Computer stops before Windows loads (no boot, blinking cursor on a black display, or errors relating to OS not found or missing drive)
Display suddenly goes blank and stays blank
Software freezes
Keyboard stops responding
The computer does not return from sleep or suspend mode
An external device stops responding (turn off power to the device in addition to performing the steps in this document)


When performing a hard reset, you must disconnect or remove all peripheral devices. To resolve the start up or operational problem, you should run the HP Support Assistant, or manually install all updated drivers from Microsoft and HP.

To perform a hard reset, use the following steps:

Turn off the computer.
Remove the computer from any port replicator or docking station.
Disconnect all external connected devices: USB storage devices, external displays, printers, etc.
Unplug the AC adapter from the notebook computer.
Remove the battery from the battery compartment.
Press and hold down the Power button for about 15 seconds to drain any residual electrical charge from the capacitors that protect the memory.
Insert the battery and plug the AC adapter back into the notebook computer; but do not connect any of the peripheral devices.
Press the Power button to turn on the computer.

If it has not resolved the issue:
Follow the steps given in the document. Remove the battery--> Power on your notebook on AC Adapter ONLY, Do a uninstall of Microsoft ACPI Compliant Battery Adapter from Device Manager & Restart the system with battery inserted..

Did you try calibrating the battery?
Please follow the steps given in this document & post if the issue is resolved after doing all of that:

CHECK THIS BEFORE EVERYTHING ELSE:
You could adjust the power option & actions on low/critical battery.

First, follow this route,
Control Panel\Systems & security \Power Options
OR
You can open power options by clicking battery icon in your system tray bar (near clock) also

In Power Options Menu,click "Change Plan Settings".
Then, click "Change Advanced Power Settings"
There, first you have to first choose your active power option (High Performance,HP Recommended or Power Saver)

below that tab, find and expand the group "Battery" and you should choose what you wish to do when the battery reaches low/critical level and how you want to define the low and critical levels.
For example,if you don't like shutting down when the battery is low, you can choose either sleeping or hibernating and you can define your own limit of low and critical battery levels.

Sir i had tried all above

Hard reset,

power options,

uninstalling Microsoft ACPI Compliant Battery Adapter from Device Manager

etc.

 i have not tried Calibbrating it yet, i think there were only options for Memory test and hdd test but no battery option was there in  System diagnostics. F2.

 

 but none of above worked.

i have set now the battery low status to 40% and Critical to 38% with Hibernate. well yeah sometimes if i remove the battery before 40 and plug it in after 2-3 hours it works with  nearly 22% charged. but if i try to power it on after hibernate, battery discharges fully and starts charging from 1-2 %. everything is weird.

Here is the procedure for manual calibration (recommended) of battery:

 

 

Calibrating the battery manually(Windows 7)

Manually calibrating the battery requires four steps: fully charge the battery, discharge or drain the battery, recharge the battery, and then run the battery test. This calibrates the battery so the battery gauge accurately displays the level of charge.
 
NOTE:When possible, use HP System Diagnostics (described above) to test the battery and get calibration instructions. The following instructions are for a manual method that works with most battery types.
 
Step 1: Charge the battery
  1. Plug in the power cord.
  2. Charge the battery to a full charge.
  3. When the battery is fully charged, proceed.
Step 2: Discharge the battery
  1. Disconnect the power cord.
  2. Shutdown the computer.
  3. Press the power button to start the computer.
  4. Press the Esc key when the HP or Compaq logo screen appears. You might have to try this more than once to see the Startup menu. If Windows opens, shut down the computer and start again.
  5. Press F2 to select F2 System Diagnostics in the Startup Menu .
  6. Click Hard Disk Test .
  7. Leave the computer on and allow the battery to fully discharge while doing the Hard Disk Test.
    NOTE:You are doing the Hard Disk Test only to drain or discharge the battery, not to get the results of the test. The battery discharges and the computer turns off before the test results display.
Step 3: Recharge the battery
  1. Plug in the power cord to charge the battery.
  2. Charge the battery to a full charge, 99%-100%.
  3. Check the battery charge. Turn on the computer and start Windows normally. Mouse over the battery icon in the system tray.
    NOTE:The battery continues to charge with the computer on or off.
  4. After reaching a full charge, keep the computer attached to the power cord for (at least) 2.5 hours.
    NOTE: If you plug in your power cord and immediately run the HP Battery Check, you might get a false failure showing the battery is bad. If the battery is in a low charge state (at less than 3%) you might also get a false reading.
Step 4: Run the battery test
  1. Ensure that the power cord is plugged in.
  2. Press the power button to start the computer.
  3. Press Esc on the keyboard when the HP or Compaq logo screen appears.
  4. Press F2 to select F2 System Diagnostics in the startup menu.
  5. Click Battery Test .
  6. Click Start Battery Test on the Battery Test page.
    The Battery Test page shows Test in progress and displays the Estimated Time Remaining.
    The results of the battery test display on the Battery Test page. If the battery is calibrated, the Battery Test reports PASSED .
    If the battery status is “Calibrate”, run the battery test again. If the battery does not calibrate a second time it might need to be replaced. Purchase a new battery by going to HP Batteries

Step 3: Recharge the battery
  1. Plug in the power cord to charge the battery.
  2. Charge the battery to a full charge, 99%-100%.
  3. Check the battery charge. Turn on the computer and start Windows normally. Click to go to the Desktop. Mouse over the battery icon in the system tray.
    NOTE:The battery continues to charge with the computer on or off.

Assign following values in Battery group option  (for all the Power plans in the Power Options)

 

 

critical battery action : hibernate for both on-battery & plugged-in

low battery level: 14% for both on-battery & plugged-in

critical battery level: 9% for both on-battery & plugged-in

low battery notofication: On for both on-battery & plugged-in

Low battery action: Do nothing for both on-battery & plugged-in

Reserve battery level: 11% for both on-battery & plugged-in

i got no HP PC Diagnostics UFEI in my F2 Start up menu.
it just Shows :
1.Hard Disk Check
2. Memory Check
3. Change Language
nothiing else.

i had these settings in Battery Profiles before. but they even didn't worked.

For calibrating the battery there is no need to go to battery check , you just need to do the manual calibration as i told earlier.

then check if calibration did the trick.

these are the only troubleshooting steps that we can do from here. Else, you've to contact HP in your region. they'll check the hardware faults.

Please do this, then again so a hard reset and then restart the system:

From the Start Menu, open All Programs, open Accessories, right click the Command Prompt, select ‘Run as Administrator’ and enter the following command, then hit enter.

powercfg -restoredefaultschemes ( note that there is a space after powercfg )

When complete, type exit and hit enter. Restart the notebook.

Check if this has made any difference to the issue and also run the Battery Test utility in HPSA again.

I suggest you once again try following steps carefully after you finished doing the above:

First of all, shut down the notebook, unplug the AC Adapter, remove the battery, and then hold down the Power button for 30 seconds.

Now, plug in the AC Adapter without the battery inserted, start the notebook, open windows Control Panel, open Device Manager, expand the entry for Batteries, right click on and the Microsoft ACPI Compliant Control Method Battery and select Uninstall - do not uninstall anything else here. When the uninstall is complete, shut the notebook down, unplug the AC Adapter, re-insert the battery and then start the PC on just the battery. Windows will automatically reinstall the driver - leave Windows running for a few minutes. Shut down the PC again. Now plug in the AC Adapter ( with the battery still inserted ) and start the notebook to see if this has helped the issue at all.


Post back the results along with the exact model name/product number & operating system installed, 32 or 64-bit?
