Hi All

I have an HP Envy 15-J004 running Windows 8.1, yesterday a BIOS update installed itself with seemingly no problems.

I now have no WiFi, I can connect via ethernet (and was when the BIOS update applied itself).

I have tried running the repair options but everything states that it is ok.

Any suggestions or thoughts before I do asystem restore.

Mant thanks

Hi Still_Confused, welcome to the HP Forums. I wonder if Airplane Mode (Windows 😎 got enabled? That would disable WiFi.

If not, try the latest drivers for your wireless module.  Find the section "Driver - Network (6) " under Windows 8.1 for your computer here: HP ENVY 15-j004ax Notebook PC Drivers

If none of the previous steps work, try the general purpose troubleshooting document on the topic. Troubleshooting Wireless Network and Internet (Windows 😎

Let me know if any of this helps.

Hi

Thanks for the advice, but no joy so far.

I have checked the drivers on the link and none of them are for the wireless adapter. The model was marketed as a HP15 Envy j004sa.

The network adapter is listed as an Intel (R) Centrino (R) Wireless-N 2330 #2. When viewing the log the first update of this driver is timed a few minutes prior to the loss of the wireless functionality.

The toubleshooting function does not detect any issues. I have reset the BIOS to factory default to clear any possible changes.

Is it worthwhile downloading an earlier version of the BIOS?

Once again thanks for your help

Was this the BIOS update you applied?  HP Notebook System BIOS Update (Intel Processors)

The network adapter showing "#2" has me concerned. First to remove all network adapters from the device manager. Then restore the original drivers using this method: Using Recovery Manager to Restore Software and Drivers (Windows 8). Then reboot, and install the updated drivers.

Let me know how that works.

Hi

Thanks for the advice.

Yes that is the BIOS F.43. It was auto downloaded rather than being selected.

I have deleted the Wireless Nwetwork adapters and then reinstalled using recovery manager as per the link you kindly sent through.

Unfortunately still no wireless.

I have opened the Network and Sharing Centre  and selected Torubleshoot Problems and then selected Netwerk Adapter followed by WiFi.

Running this now returns the message "Problems found : There might be a problem with the driver for the WiFi adapter. Options are "Try these repairs as an administrator" or Continue with other remaining repairs".

I selected "Try these repairs...." but after option being run display stated "Not Fixed"

I then ran "Update Driver Software" for the adapter in device manager with "Search Automatically for Updated driver software", message received "Windows has successfully updated your driver software.

I then rebooted the machine.

Still not wireless. I have rerun the troubleshoot problems function and checked the additional details, the issue found reads "Windows couldn't automatically bind the IP protocol stack to the network adapter"

It it possible to get acces to the old drivers?

Once again thanks for your help with this.

regards

Brian

Try it again, but after uninstalling, and restoring the original driver, shut down the computer and do a hard reset. The instructions are here:  Performing a Hard Reset or Forced Reset

Hi

Still not having any success unfortunately. Have uninstalled, reinstalled, hard reset and still no wireless and still the IP Protocol Stack mesage when checking the driver with troubleshoot.

If I run a full system restore do you think it will work, I suspect it will not reset the BIOS, if that indeed is is the issue.

Many thanks

Brian
