Solution

Have an  HP Pavillion DV6-FV161AV Laptop running windows Vista.  No sound..speakers not working.  The following quick and simple fix worked for me! (foundthis on another thread)

Just reinstall the hardware driver by using the recovery feature.  Here are the steps..

Start Button - Select All programs and click on the Recovery Manager Folder then the recovery manager file.

 -click advanced option

-check "Hardware driver re-installation "

-next

-next again

-choose from list "IDT high definition audio codec driver"

-next

-wait until re-installation done

-restart

-done (thats it).. thanks

Hi MrwaMohammed,

I see that you are looking to get your sound working. Not sure which IDT High Definition Audio driver you installed as there are no IDT drivers for your specific model on Windows 8.1. That could be part of the problem. Try this driver below it is for Windows 8.1. Install that and let me know how it goes.

IDT High Definition Audio Driver Windows 8.1

Hi MrwaMohammed,

So it doesn't look like it is a driver issue then but something with the Windows Audio services. I need to check the driver first to confirm. In services check to make sure that any dependencies are also running as well. Right click Windows Audio and select Dependencies.

Also I have include a link to Microsoft Fix It for Audio Issues. Try running that and it may fix the issue.

I am having the same problem - I am getting no sound through either speakers or headphones.

Interestingly (possibly) I get sound perfeclty well when dual booting into ubuntu, it is only Windows7 that I'm getting this problem in.

System specification:

OS: Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit Service Pack 1

Product Name: Product name: HP Pavilion dv6 Notebook PC

Product number: B1K51EA#ABU

I've tried re-installing the IDT Driver to no avail, used Microsoft's AudioPlayback FixIt as well as their AudioPlayback diagnostics, neither of which revealed anything.

If it adds anything to the diagnosing process, this happened after an unexplained crash which apparently necessated a disk check, after which I've had no audio (having been watching DVDs and Youtube that evening).

hi there.
I have HP Pavilion dv6 1256TX laptop with Windows 7 (32bit), Intel core 2 Duo Processor. speakers don't give any sound & there is no sound when using headphones/earphones as well. Notification in the taskbar does show movement when the volume is increases but there is no sound. Have tried all things mentioned in the forums here but to no avail.

Have tried this thread HP Pavilion dv6 IDT audio not working & this one Pavilion Dv6 No Sound and even this one HP Pavilion dv6 Entertainment Notebook PC series No Sound Troubleshooting..
But still i can't get any sound. It was fine earlier & suddenly it stopped and gave no sound. However sometimes it has sound and then it goes away again. I have tried all the things possible. I even gave laptop at HP service centre as it had heating issue so they cleaned the fan & other parts but still there is no sound.

Please help.

Regards.
