I also have the poor performance problem. I just bought a new hp split x2 laptop Win8 with the ralink rt3290 and the wifi is poor and inconsistent. My 4 year old laptop has faster more consistent wifi performance. I have the 5.0.25.0 driver, but not sure if I should try the older 5.0.15.0 driver, has anyone tried going back?
Is there a solution for this yet? I like the laptop, but have to return very soon if this is not fixable.

Another persion (me) with a ralink rt3290 problem. Wireless works fine connectining apart from when I cannect to a cisco router within a business. I've been told it's beacuse the encrytion is WPA2 AES? Not sure if this is the reason or someone just guessing ??
I am using windows 7. When I've re-imaged the laptop with windows 8 it works fine but windows 7 won't have it. I can't have windows 8 installed as my company won't allow it.
HOW do I get the ralink rt3290 to work with cisco routers.
