Here is the info about the cumulative update

it does contain shutdown.dll fix..not sure if that is a fix or not. will try it when I get back home. I have dell machine in my office and that is working flawlessly with windows 10 since the update.

@ tas111: That update sounds very promising!  Will try tonight as well...  Sounds like it's at least intended to address this issue (among many others).

@ BWithering: 3D DriveGuard has nothing to do with this issue, but it's still a good idea to upgrade to the latest version.  That's the software that protects your hard drive in case of an accidental drop.

Thx Dan,

Where could we check manually to see if that Windows update is available on our computer?

Woo hoo! It is there. Downloading now.. I will restart and give it some time to see what happens.

Thank you Dan and others posting about the "Cumulative Update for Windows 10 for x64-based Systems "

There is file in the change log named Acpi.sys. What if it is the fix for our issue? haha

I have gone back to Windows 8.1 and have no intention of going back to W10. My HP Pavilion is working as smooth as ever now.

Just to let you know - you can only revert back to W8.1 within a month or you will be stuck with W10.

I have fixed this problem... and stay with Windows 10.

*Update*

First test after installing the "Cumulative Update for Windows 10 for x64-based Systems " update.

I tapped the power button which would normally put my laptop to sleep, but it would not wake back up and the light did not blink. Had to do hard reset. So far I am 0-1.

Next test will be closing the lid . Let's see what happens.

*Update 2*

Nope. Closing the lid fails as well. Had a do another hard reset. And yes, I restored all of my power options back to default before testing. Tapping the power button once and closing the lid are set to put the computer to sleep.

So this new Windows update today did nothing to solve the problem. At least for me...

Back to square one.
