GET THIS PEOPLE- the problem only occurs after the computer has been running for a while, and I think being actively used.
USE IT FOR A FEW HOURS- then tell us if you have something that actually works.
I 100% agree with this. I was going to say this a few days ago. This is a major issue that can only be resolved by a software update from HP/Microsoft. I know people are trying to help, but you guys haven't fully tested it. So stop posting it and wasting other people's time or getting their hopes up. I have a sleep issue also but it only happens when the computer is on for more than a hour. All these fixes which has a restart step will not fix it. lol. We just got to wait till the updated drivers come out and then post whether it works or not.

You were right. It worked once, the the issue is back again!
I did a restart then a shutdown before I login and it went fine. Then I came here and when I read your post I tried another shutdown and it didn't work!
I just noticed that when I totally removed this driver I can shutdown:

But of course it will reinstall iteslef after restart the issue is on all over again..

Unfortunately, I'm getting used to the hard reset now. I've decided I'm going to try to deal with it for another week or so, and hold out hope that some of the posts that speak of here of there being an update in a week or so come true. I really don't want to tweak all of these settings, drivers, BIOS, etc in fear that I will forget what I changed and will cause other issues down the road. Crossing my fingers an auto update comes soon to resolve.

Alright. I tried this once and it worked but I will keep using my laptop for couple of hours before I confirm it's a permanent fix:
It downgrade my drivers/inf files and after reboot I was able to shutdown normally. Will feedback the resut later.

Yes, it is amusing (and annoying) to see so many people posting "solutions" which have not been tested. We need to wait for MS/HP/Intel, or whomever.
In the meantime, here is the
best way I have found to deal with this situation:
- Never go into Sleep Mode
- Do NOT restart and then shut down (waste of time!)
- Hibernate!! (Hibernate is also broken, but here's how to make it workable for the time being.... After it hibernates--but the power light is still on, and a slight hum may eminate from the case--you can then hold the power key for several seconds until the power is off. Later you can turn on the machine and it will resume from hibernation. But all your work will be properly saved.)
I would rather it would sleep. I would rather not have to power the machine off myself. But this is the best way to work with this problem for the time being.

I just want to share my experience and sign off for now:
Updated BIOS to latest version that showed up yesterday, did a clean install of Win 10 Home SL x64 and let Windows manage all the drivers like most people would do. Everything went smooth, it's just missing HP 3D drive guard driver but I have SSD so never mind... I didn't bother. First thing that I noticed: no BSOD on first boot like when installed first time (both upgraded from 8.1 and clean install). Installed some desktop programs, opened bunch of documents, browsed web and did usual stuff... Closed lid when I got tired, after like 3 hours or so, let it rest for 20 minutes and resumed normally. Than I installed drivers for dGPU from AMD's site (windows update drivers wouldn't intall Catalyst). Restarted, no BSOD or errors. I drained battery to 10% level and put computer to sleep again for another 2 hours aprox. so it would go to hibernation at some point. Plugged in, resumed normally.
Done testing, it's finally working as it should. Looks like BIOS update dit it for my ProBook 470 G1.
I whish for all of you having issues to get fix soon.
Thanks for all info you shared and special thanks to HP for not posting in this thread yet.
I will post again if I get any similar issues.

I checked for updates in HP Support Assitant and there was one. Currently installing HP 3D DriveGuard Software. Not sure if this has anything to do with the issue or not though.
