I also just noticed my Synaptics driver automatically updated itself back to version 19.  Ugh!

Right.  That continues to be an issue even for me.  Though my SLEEP issues are apparently resolved, that pops up over and over.  After reverting back on driver level it will update and re-appear.

Check this out, however, to prevent that from happening automatically: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/3073930

It took a couple attempts and some fiddling around with settings -- first I had the Windows Update service set to Automatic and it reinstalled version 19 before I could hide it; then I changed the Windows Update service to Disabled and it couldn't find the update to hide; finally, I changed the Windows Update service to Manual and I was able to hide the update -- but this eventually worked for me.  Thanks!

All I currently want is an end to the endless emails I get about this so hoping ticking the box helps.. Staying now on 8.1 for a few months letting MS figure it out, no more messing about with doing this or that.

Re4med, is your laptop still working fine?

Exactly, thats what I actually wanted to say. Somehow, some people has misinterpreted from my  previous statement that reverting just Realtek audio driver would solve the issue. Well that was just for me, because the rest of the drivers I installed were already of Windows 8.1, but not this one.

Right now, I am on a freshly installed Windows 10 with drivers of Windows 8.1 instead of Windows 10(except for Nvidia and Intel GMA drivers), and its been 2 days so far I face not faced any shutdown/reboot/sleep issues. P.S. I have not installed Intel Rapid storage driver at all though. This method seems to be working on my brother's Lenovo Y50 as well, even though he is on an older BIOS.

@DanG82, along with the method you used to block driver updates from Windows update, you can also use this tool. This tool can also help you to prevent from other buggy updates as well, meant for Windows.

I think the problem is the  Intel management Engine Interface (EMI) driver.

On my Pavilion 15 if I use the windows 10 version 11.0.0.1146 (dated July 12 2015), my laptop does not restart normally  (does a hard reboot) and fail to sleep.

If I install the windows 8.1 EMI  driver, version 9.5.14.1724 (dated August 19 2013), or 9.5.14.1724 (dated September 5 2013), and do a restart or sleep then my laptop is working fine again. The first reboot will be a hard one, but after that it will reboot normally.

You can check the install version in device manager in System devices.

you should try to install the 8.1 version for your model and make sure windows does not update it automatically by blocking the update.

Even though it was Realtek for me, but even me too noticed that this Intel Management driver is being faulty on my brother's Lenovo Y50 and my ex-roomie's HP Pavillion 15 laptop. Initially removing just driver helped us. But somehow, we did some total mess up, and did a clean installtion with all drivers of Windows 8.1.

Well, meanwhile can you please confirm, whether all your remaining drivers are of Windows 10 and just reverting the Intel Mgmt driver has solved your problem? Plus you should run your laptop foratleast 3 hours.

I think this step would bring us one step closer to which driver is actually creating problem. Windows update is automatically downloading that driver if not installed, however, sometimes, if installed, even if Windows 8.1 version, it soesn't update automatically unless you do it manually in the device manager.

All of my other drivers are windows 10 drivers and were installed via windows update after updating 8.1 to 10.

My laptop was running fine for 9 days until I updated the EMI driver to version version 11.0.0.1146 yesterday.

Yep, that's the tool I was using, but it has to detect an available update first before it can hide it, which can get tricky if (A) Windows Update installs the update before you can get to hiding it, or (B) it can't find the update because you've disabled Windows Update entirely.

I found the trick was to temporarily set the Windows Update service to manual so that tool can still find the update but Windows Update can't automatically install it.

Exactly, thats what I wanted to say. Its actually a driver issue. I was partially unaware which driver, because from the beginning I installed all drivers for Windows 8.1 and saw my problems gone. For a moment I thought it may be Realtek, because it was always being shown under operation on typing the command "powercfg -requests", but i always doubted that it could be either Intel Mgmt, or Intel Chipset or Intel Rapid storage, but I couldn't figure that out because I had already all my drivers except for the display ones , of Windows 8.1.

Well that was a thankful information.
