"The best driver software for your device is already installed."

That solution is no help for me.

@ Holly_J: Thanks, but unfortunately these "fixes" have already been suggested by myself and several others here and have been determined not to permanently resolve the issue.

Try updating the HP Wireless Button Driver(in Device Manager, under Human Interface Devices) if your machine has it installed. It seems to have worked for me. Earlier I updated the video driver which helped with laptop going to sleep after inactivity, but it was updating the above driver that seems to have fixed the lid closing crash. Could just be coincidence, but it seems to ne working today.

Just a little update: hibernation instead of sleep works for me, no issues at all since yesterday but it is a pain because it takes longer to wake and it is not solution for this problem... Still waiting for actual fix rather than restore Windows 8.1, it is a pain, too.

I can not experiment with audio or wireless button drivers because they keep disappearing and reappearing from this page

Right now there is only touchpad driver listed for Windows 10x64, earlier today there were no drivers at all... And still no video drivers since Saturday, not even for Win7, 8, 8.1 or Linux OS, they are just gone.

Welp, I was in a call with HP Support for 2 hours, I talked to NO one who was any help, and then the call got disconnected, hopefully they call me back but I doubt it, I'm a little upset.

I've been reading this thread from the start but didn't bother posting. I've also been having the same problem and I'm also using Intel. The problem has been intermittent but for the last two days it's crashed every time I've either shut down or gone into sleep mode. I've just updated the driver that is mentioned above ^ (HP Wireless Button Driver) and I can confirm that it does seem to have fixed it! I've only tried it twice but it's worked both times! Time will tell...

[EDIT]: I should also mention that I switched off 'Fast Startup' and I also updated my Intel graphics driver. i don't know if they have had any impact, I done both of those last week and it didn't appear to fix the problem. But I just closed the lid for a 3rd time and it has gone into sleep and woken up as it should!

You can easily fix shutdown crash temporarily, just disable fast startup

My drivers are all up to date and it still crashes on wake from sleep, I think it has nothing to do with wireless button driver.

I actually tried all of the fixes mentioned in this post earlier today and it has not solved the problem.

Please solve this fast -- I only joined HP forums today as this problem is very annoying. Everything I go away from the computer, for a call or coffee etc I come back and cannot get my computer going...its just dead. The only way I can get it to work is by powering off completely and restarting.

One more update: I enabled hybrid graphics again and it is not crashing on boot like earlier. Using driver from Windows update unlike earlier when I installed driver from HP and AMD. Looks like CCC made it crash on boot. But, now my PC crashes on resume from hibernation. This is sooooo much fun!!!

I have a HP Pavilion 15 -- just to elaborate on this issue further.

The WiFi/F12 button has an orange light on when my PC asleep and unable to wake up. Anyone else noticed this? Could it be something to do with WiFi/Modem?
