Hi,

I have noticed that this thread is pretty recent and sorry about hijacking it for a moment.

I have a similar issue and I am 12 days past the warranty. My issue is identified by the attribute No 5 of the SMART utility.

And this is the only attribute that causes the SMART to fail.

Evidently the hard drive has been been bad from day one but it became apparent once the treshold of the reallocated sectors has been met. It has a bit over 1800 sectors reallocated up till now.

I would think that HP should replace the drive under the warranty as the drive has been defective all along.

The tech personal that I talked to don't seem to have authority to make any decision and I was wondering if anyone could point me in the direction of someone with some technical knowledge (and authority) to evaluate my situation.

Thank you.

Hi Dean,

I was able to bern 7 recovery discs, but the forth had an error at the end of it. The program would not let me go back, so I'm worried that complete recovery will not take place. I tried to reset the recovery, but was told that only one set is allowed. Is there any way that I can reset the program so that I can bern another set?

I haven't heard from you after I sent my last email, so I will reiterate.

I have had this same error for over a year, There is nothing wrong with my harddrive. it appeared after an update from Microsoft or HP so I think it is a false error and it screwed up the booting up of windows. Does anyone know how to fix this false error? windows now boots slow and takes a long, long time

Hello: I received the same error as in the original posting. I am running a backup now. My  question is-When I purchased my laptop I fell into the group that was able to the free upgrade to win7. I don't want Vista. What am I to do. It's not in the budget to purchase another copy of win7...
